I have dealt with them for over 5 hours today about charges, insurance, and other things over a stolen Blackberry.
My bill is never the same, it ranges from $70-$100 when I never go over minutes.........I think they are the biggest rip-off in the area.

I do not use App. Wireless, but mine does the same. I have heard others that do have App. Wireless and theirs does the same also

I know people with about every other service and their bill is usually within $2-$3.
They are losing at least 7 customers over my deal today, probably more.

I hate them and i'm totally against them. When I was home on leave in May, I went to get a phone from App Wireless because phone companies (even the big ones) outside of post try to rip us off. Anyway, I have a 680 credit score which is excellent and I went to get a phone. They told me because my credit was bad I would have to put $700 down for a deposit, and THEN pay for the plan and phone. Needless to say I told them to shove that deposit up there ***. Then, when I was in in August, I went to get a phone at AT&T and they checked my credit and said I didn't even have to put a deposit down. I got a really expensive phone for pretty much nothing. They even had a military discount and service was great too. I even got the beautiful girl's number that sold it to me.

Sprint used to do the same thing to me. When I had Sprint the bill would range anywhere from $70 a month to $120 a month. Needless to say, I dropped Sprint as soon as I could.
I have had AT&T for over a year now and at least their billing is consistent.

The credit score thing, there are 3 different credit companies that a person can go through to get a score, Equifax, Experian, and Transunion. AT&T uses a different one than Appalachian Wireless. So just because your credit score was perfect on one doesn't mean that it is on the other. You will have a different score on each of the 3 credit bureaus.
And very funny comment with the great service. Call me when you break down between Paintsville and Louisa on US23 (or the other 75% of the area where you don't get service). Oh, wait, you won't be able to.

You work there?
I'll be going with AT&T or Verizon. Verizon has service everywhere App. does and you can actually use the Blackberry stuff without a ton of hassle......
If you do work there, whats the deal with not being able to buy out a contract now? Losing that many people?

Appy wireless believes that since they cover some areas AT&T doesn't they can charge out the behind for plans.

I know, believe me.
Compare a Verizon or AT&T plan with the exact plan throiugh App. Its not even close, but I could deal with that because they invested into the area if they had ANY KIND of customer service.............
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD.
Thats what happens when your reps work off commission........new customers get the world, current customers get nothing but the run around and rudeness........plus paying out the hind-parts for something covered under insurance.
Oh and I'm up to 15 phones in my family leaving App. when their contracts up and I'm starting on my brothers in-laws and my sons mothers family today.

I'll say this, I find it funny that App. is charging hundreds for phones like the Samsung Finesse and other such phones, when I renew my contract in Nov., I'll be getting the Samsung Impression which won the best phone at the annual technology event for 99 cents by renewing my contract through Walmart. That's a 3.2 inch touch screen phone with a full slide out keyboard for 99 cents, App. is ripping people off with the prices of their phones and plans.

A company like AT&T reserves so many phones through manufacturers like Motorola, Samsung, etc. that they get their phones at a cheaper price than we can. They are able to do this because they have 70 million customers to our 97,000 customers. It's basically like buying gasoline at Joe's Holler Mart compared to buying it at Speedway or BP. You will notice Joe's Holler Mart is a few cents higher because they are a smaller company compared to the big boys.

Sure it may be a few cents higher for the gas, but comparably how much would a phone like the Impression run at App? You all don't even carry that, there's a reason you lose customers, not everyone wants a blackberry when they upgrade from the Razr, and App. doesn't have that big of a selection, when I'm able to get an amazing phone for 99 cents I'm not gonna think twice about that.

As far as not having any phones, we currently offer at least 4 touch screen models, and at least 10 different regular phone models that I can name off the top of my head that have nothing to do with a Blackberry.
And if you can get the Impression at Walmart right now for .99 cents then go for it because according to AT&T's website, they are 149.99 after a 50 dollar mail in rebate with a 2 year agreement. We have the Spyder II, which is the exact same body style phone for $49.99 with a 2 year agreement and no mail in rebate hassle. The mail in rebate for AT&T also must involve you getting a data or messaging plan of $20.00 per month or higher. Sounds like a great deal to me. Pay $199.99 for a phone with a 2 year agreement that is not a Blackberry, and pay $20.00 per month in order to get a $50.00 mail in rebate. :eyeroll:

Who's doing that? I'm getting it for 99 cents, lol. As you see, with the 99 cent phone, AT&T treats its customers who have been with them for 2 years nicely if you look close enough.
In all honesty, App. just flat out loses, you all don't have rollover, that's an automatic fail.

AT&T has to offer rollover minutes or everyone would be complaining about losing their minutes every month because you can't get good enough signal around here to make a call.
But it's pointless arguing about this. You have your preference and I have mine. Neither one of us will convince the other that so and so is better.

Oh I knew neither could be convinced before we started this, but I just think for the service, App. charges way too much for their non-existent roll over plan and the cost of the cell phones.
Thing for me is, I live right in Pikeville, so AT&T is perfect for me, and when I'm not in Pikeville, my parents house is right off the side of the four lane, so App. hasn't even crossed my mind. I was just pointing out what I wouldn't like about it, who knows, if my only choice was App. maybe I would find something I liked.

I ahve the Lg spyder and it is possibly the worst phone I have ever had. The only place I get service is where cingular gets it. I hate it with a passion I loved appalachian wireless when i had my other phone. Im not the only one who has had problems with this phone. Actually my GF has cingular and gets better service than I do. I was at the walmart redlights in Pville the other day and was in roaming. I was at trailblazers in Pville the other day and was in roaming. I hate this phone. I love appalachian wireless but hate this phone.

Your phone will start a programming session. This should fix the signal issues you are having with your phone and the roaming deal. What has happened is Sprint came in and turned a tower on in the middle of the major towns in Eastern KY and we had been crossing towers with them. If you do the *228 deal, it should solve your problems. Let me know how it goes.

I've never personally had App. Wireless, but several family members have and they all liked the service and phones. I had never heard any complaints on App. Wireless until this thread was started, FWIW.
I currently have AT&T and have been extremely pleased with their service until now. My phone, which was just one month out of warranty died on me. The microphone went out, so I can hear people talk, but cannot talk back. So now, I pretty much have an $80 text-message machine.
I switched to an old Cingular phone a couple days ago and it worked until today, when the phone refused to charge. Outlet works, charger works, but phone's battery will not take a charge. Unfortunately, I'm not up for an upgrade with AT&T until March 2010, so it looks like I'll be buying some piece of junk off of eBay....unless any of you in BGR-land have a phone you'd like to sell.

I think it all depends on where you live. If you live up in the boonies, go for App. Wireless for sure. If you get better coverage with someone else and prefer them over AW, then go with them. I know several people who use different companies and their bills go up and down as well. So I don't think it is just AW who does this. I have had both AT&T and AW and don't have any major complaints from them. My contract is up soon and I'm not sure which one I want next.

Exactly, even though they were extremly rude and were unwilling to talk with me about plans after I told them I wouldn't be able to get a phone that day, I would probably buy an iPhone from them if they carried it just because it gets better service back home than AT&T.
