The last thing that the federal government or state governments need is more tax revenue. Finally, states are beginning to push back on the federal government for the imposition of unfunded mandates and for the feds failing to secure the border.
Higher taxes in the midst of this "jobless recovery" would only take more money out of the economy and exasperate the unemployment problem. The solution for states experiencing budget shortfalls is to cut spending. That will not happen if taxpayers bail out Democratic politicians with more tax dollars.
The most severe state budget troubles are in states whose governments are controlled by Democrats. They created these problems and at the federal level, Democrats have been making matters worse by caving to their uncontrollable urge to tax, borrow, spend, and regulate.
In January, Congressional Democrats intend to impose one of the largest, if not the largest, tax increases on American taxpayers in history by letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Even with that catastrophe on the horizon, Democrats in Congress failed to pass a budget for 2010, in a transparent effort to remove the issue of their extreme fiscal irresponsibility from the Congressional campaigns.
Let me be clear (as Obama might say), giving more tax money to liberal Democrats is like offering one last drink to a recovering alcoholic - only liberal Democrats are not interested in recovery.
Any new tax is a bad idea and that includes an internet tax.
