As far as the coaching goes, for some reason Paintsville has hired people with little to no experience in coaching at the varsity level to coach the major sports. Ratliff has coached middle school basketball for a number of years, and was an assistant on the Varsity team for a number of years also. Kinner (to my knowledge) had coached very little, if any, varsity football prior to being named the coach of this team. I personally do not agree with his offensive scheme, but that's my opinion. The defense needs to learn how to tackle properly, and quit trying to arm tackle so much. I watched the Lawrence County game, and saw the Dawgs backfield run straight up the middle, and the only thing that touched them was arms. They've got to step up and hit somebody. Their defense is the worst in the state at the moment (statistically), and I blame arm tackling for that. People can say "well those schools were bigger than us, and had more players, and we weren't supposed to win anyway 'cause we're just a small A school.", but for years and years Paintsville used to beat those bigger schools, including the one across the creek. So that excuse doesn't work. Things need a serious change or football will be completely down the tube at PHS. Hopefully they can get things turned around.
