Everybody knows that game pretty much funded the whole football season for Paintsville. I'm not saying that P-Ville is in financial trouble, or that has any bearing on the way they play. I remeber seeing the head line in The Paintsville Herald when it was announced that the Apple Bowl would be cancelled. Can't remember the exact words (it's been a few years now) but it was something to the effect of 'we aren't worried about playing for a barrel, we are here to win a state championship'. Why would Paintsville not want to play a team like JC to get them ready for post-season play? P-Ville could schedule another good team at the beginning of the season and also play JC, that would be more than enough to get them ready for the playoffs. No offense to the other 1A schools around here, but they aren't going to get anybody ready for a trip to Bowling Green.

But I'm glad JC doesn't play P-Ville anymore. When I was in high school, the goal was to beat Paintsville, it didn't matter if we went to the playoffs or not, as long as we won the apple bowl it was a good season. But since Matney arrived, if we don't win 10 games, win the district and make it atleast to the regional championship, it's not a successful season.
