The way to tell if it is indeed a headgasket, water o antifreeze will come out of your exhaust. Eventually your car will overheat too. If you let it get too hot, might as well by a new motor/used motor. I had a 98 cavalier I thought the world of, I gave it **** but I loved that car. Put around 100k miles on it. Had another engine put in it, and still did the same thing. Have to be careful about who you get to work on your car that's for sure.
