Hoot Gibson, would you happen to have any recommendations to prevent these attacks? Should people just be more careful?

By the way, I personally think that when it's publicly known that African Americans are becoming violent towards whites because of racism, I'm guessing that there might be an increase in whites becoming violent towards African Americans. Therefore, I personally think it's good for both whites and African Americans to learn how to prevent these attacks from happening to themselves.

As I've said before, the best way to stop anything like this from continuing to grow is by being compassionate towards others. Even if someone gives you a tough day, please continue to care for them.

As an individual, all one can do is avoid areas where racist mobs are most likely to frequent, especially after dark. Otherwise, shame and ridicule is probably the best way to deal with these attacks. The mayor of Philadelphia, who is an African-American himself has begun to speak publicly to the black thugs in his city who have been involved in numerous black on whit mob beatings. More community leaders need to follow his lead because unfortunately, racist thugs seem oblivious to criticism by anybody who does not share their skin color.

Enforcing the law and prosecuting crimes is important but to stop mob violence, it must become "uncool" to be a mobster. Ignoring the racial component of these crimes, which has been the approach that police and community "leaders" in Milwaukee, Chicago and other big US cities, is only making matters worse.

Mayor Nutter's approach is what is needed to begin changing the violent, racist culture of our inner cities.

Stu Bykofsky: Nutter's tirade on mayhem mobs needed to be said

WITH AN angry blast (following earlier ones that didn't pinpoint race), an impassioned Mayor Nutter said what no white person could (safely) say: Philadelphia's flash-mayhem mobs are black and black parents must accept a role in stopping them.
It was his Bill Cosby moment. By playing the race card in an unexpected way, Nutter can expect a lashing from the black apolog- I mean academics who are more interested in justifying bad behavior than in condemning it.

This nonacademic white boy knows the vast majority of African-Americans are law-abiding and hardworking. Bad behavior by a tiny number of blacks shouldn't fuel fear or disrespect for the vast majority - but I know too many white Philadelphians will do that.

"You damaged your own race," Nutter said before his home congregation at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, knowing the people in the pews are not the problem. The mayor invited coverage because his message - greeted by rousing applause - was aimed over the Baptist heads in West Philly to a larger audience.

If you want other people "to respect you and not be afraid when they see you walking down the street, then leave the innocent people" alone, Nutter said.

He didn't say "innocent white people," but, as far as I can tell, none of the people attacked - in Fairmount, in the subway concourse or at 15th and Walnut - were black. How are my paleface brothers and sisters supposed to feel now when a group of black teens approaches?
