This game really blew up in the 3rd. Whitley received the opening kick and marched the ball down field with a five minute drive only to be stopped on 4th-down attempt. Three plays later Britt was in the end zone and had 60-yards on two runs. The remainder of the the 1st half was just pretty good defense. Whitley had a couple of opportunities to tie it up before half, but RCHS just man'd up and got the stops.

In the third, Russell got the ball and Britt immediately scored on the 79-yard run. On the kick-off, Whitley attempted to run it out of the endzone only to be stopped on the 10. A couple of plays later, Blake Ellis intercepted a pass and returned it 40-yards for the score. On the kick-off, Whitley tried to bring it out of the end zone again, but were stopped on the 5. Whitley really just kept digging their own holes, and didn't have the man power to dig back out. Whitley probably had the ball for 30+ minutes, and when you keep coming up short you become deflated physically and mentally.

RunItUpTheGut, don't sell your team short. Russell Co. is as good as most of the mountain teams that you guys normally play. To hold us to 30 you have a pretty good defense, and as I said earlier Bryant is a beast. If they can just come up with a game plan that doesn't require him to carry the ball 90% of the time, they will become much better. It's hard to finish 95 yard drives in 90-degree weather when you have one guy constantly running up the middle. Goal line offense just usually isn't too successful from your own 10-yard line.

This season is early, Whitley will be better than you think.

Why were they letting Whitley run the ball out of the end zone? That is an automatic touchback in high school unless they caught it outside of the endzone and ran in and back out.
