Somerset went on to lose to Ft Knox 19-14. The next year Somerset went undefeated in the regular season but go upset in the Regionals I believe. I don't remember enough about them but I would say you were right. That was the pinnacle of both programs runs. The two had numerous finals appearances in that era. Somerset was in the finals in '78, '81 and '83 but their best team was probably in '82 when they went 10-1. Corbin had titles in '76, '80 and '82 and a finals showing in '77.

I was on the 1984 Somerset team. We lost to Newport Central Catholic in the state semi-finals 15-0. The Newport Catholic team had Frank Jacobs who went on to play for Notre Dame's last National Championship team and Jeff Brady who played for 8 teams in the NFL.
