I remember watching Steve Bird of Corbin,Tuck Woolum of Pineville playing for EKU on TV against Murray State. If I'm remebering correctly both had great performances in the big win. Not sure of the year,maybe '79 for the national championship,but it sure was a great game. I was thinking David Hensley of Cawood was on that team but not sure.

I was at that game and that was one of the most electric atmospheres I've ever been a part of. It was '82 and the Colonels went 13-0 to win the title. Ironically I feld the '81 team was better but lost to Navy for their only blemish and then lost to Idaho State in the Championship Game.

Steve Bird had the best hands of about any WR I ever saw. He was EKU's Fred Bilitenkoff. Nothing against Tuck, who waited patientlly for his turn to come up that season, but Bird and Tron Armstrong made him look even better with the catches they made.
