This is my opinion about that. A team has to run the ball a lot to get to the point where they can run the ball. I do agree the pass is what loosens things up and has a tendency to get people out of the box to allow better success for the run. A good passing game seems to get a defense back on their heels because the threat of a pass reception and, the run after, is such a game changer and seems to weigh heavy on the minds of the defense.

The passing threat by itself is not enough to win consistently against the better teams. When a defense has to honor the run and the pass they are forced to play a little looser and that softens them across the board, and that gets magnified when facing a team that can spread the field. Eastern Kentucky does seem to be behind, in that most schools rarely pass. Can't explain that one but it does seem to be the case. OLD SCHOOL?
