Some of the posts in this thread are both funny and a little sad. Raceland fans seem to praising Pikeville and talking about the tremendous "class" that Pikeville has, yet at the same time they express great joy that Fairview lost and say incredibly insulting things about not only Fairview, but the city of Westwood itself. Raceland fans certainly aren't showing the same "class" that they're praising Pikeville for having.

As for the last comment about Fairview's schedule, I think it was proven last night that Fairview's schedule had absolutely nothing to do with the loss. Had Fairview come out and been overwhelmed by the talent of Pikeville, I would have agreed with that premise, but if anything, Pikeville was a bit overwhelmed at first at the aggressiveness of Fairview. They were requiring multiple tacklers to bring down the Fairview running backs in the first half, thus the 18-0 start.

Did playing difficult teams during the regular season help Raceland? They lost to this Pikeville team by 30+ points last week. All that was proven to me in last night's game was that Fairview was better than Pikeville with Littlejohn on the field and Pikeville was better than Fairview without Littlejohn on the field. If Fairview had gotten to play Ashland during the regular season, it wouldn't have changed this game one single iota.

As for the comment saying that Fairview has "nothing to show for it at the end of the year"??? I guess if we go by that logic, only one team per year has "something to show for it" at the end of the year, the eventual state champions. Only one team in each class is going to win it all. Every other team is eventually going home sad at some point. Do all of those teams have nothing to show for their efforts?

Fairview won their district championship this year. They also played with a pride and determination that brought the community and school together. I'm sure each of the players, particularly seniors, learned important life lessons about striving together for a common goal and giving all they had in that pursuit. They sure impressed me this season. Ultimately, all they really likely missed out on was a long ride down to Hazard. Fairview has their school and program moving in a positive direction. They have a lot to be excited about.

As for the details of this game, Pikeville did a good job of not quitting when the score hit 18-0 in the 2nd quarter. They showed a lot of resolve in coming back. This turned out to be a very good game that could have gone either way at the end. The game could really be summed up as "pre Littlejohn injury" and "post Littlejohn injury". 18-0 Fairview with him. 20-0 Pikeville without him. Injuries are a big part of football, though. Give Pikeville credit for making the play to put him out.
