Covington Holy Cross 48 - Somerset 14
#52
I believe that I speak for all Somerset fans when I say that we loved every second of watching our team grow into the team that they were this season.

To all our Seniors, it gets better than it feels today. You played hard and deserved a win it just wasn't there last night. It is hard to imagine never seeing each of you in a jersey again. Keep your heads up and be proud of what you accomplished. Everyone is so proud to see how well you all did and how fun you were to watch.

The all the Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen. You will back here next year! Losing is never a good feeling but it doesn't have to be that way again.

We all hate that this season had to end like this - I don't think that anyone saw it coming. Glad to see how many fans made the drive, I have no doubt that every kid play on the field appreciated seeing everyone there to support them.

On a bit of reflection on the game, it was a huge disappointment to see the game happen like it did. I agree with everyone that even though some "issues" during the game did not CHANGE how the game ended, I know that it had a huge impact when it mattered. No one can deny that the clock stopping the play of the game for 5 minutes while Somerset was in the red zone didn't kill their momentum when it could have mattered most. On top of that, the officiating was not great. I don't think anyone has any doubt that when Lange fumbled under the 20 yard line that he landed on the ball. It should have been a Somerset call. I'm not going to blame the game on anything but getting outsmarted in the second half BUT certain situations like that throughout the game did nothing but to ruin any Somerset momentum.

I am and will always been against stadium seating that pits the two fans next to one another. It was impossible to be a Somerset fan last night and be happy for our players when we did something good. The sneers and hollers from the Holy Cross fans every time we caught a ball was unbearable. Sorry that we were happy to see our team make a good play every now and then. We should have known better than to cheer for our kids.

I wish the best of luck to Holy Cross and congratulations on a first State appearance.

More than that, I hate when a season ends for a team and especially this team who was so special in dreaming of what they could accomplish this year. Congratulations on doing so well and keep your heads up! You win some and you lose some but you will always be a Somerset Briar Jumper!
