Is Lex really only 15-20 minutes away from EKU? Seems longer to me than that. Assuming you are right however, the last thing that the KHSAA wants are games delayed due to a team bus getting stuck on the interstate due to an accident on the way to the stadium. With all the hotels in BG proper, even if there is an accident it's generally easier to get around /out of the congestion by using side roads than it is getting a bus out of a traffic jam on the interstate. That may seem lame and weak, but I know the KHSAA spends a lot of time thinking about the unexpected when it comes to the logistics and administration of the championship games.

Trust me on this point: if EKU submitted a bid that was equal to WKU's in financing, accomodations, etc., etc., the KHSAA staff (whom all live in Lex.) would be pushing hard for EKU to be awarded the championship site. Those folks spend many long days preparing for and running the championship games. I'm quite certain that if they could go home at the end of the long days and spend the night in their own beds, they'd be pushing hard to have them at EKU.

I don't think the last time the KHSAA requested proposals from all schools/cities interested in hosting the football playoffs that EKU/Richmond even submitted a proposal. Maybe they did, but I sure don't remember them doing so. Hopefully they can do so in the future.

If EKU/Richmond can submit a proposal competitive with WKU/BG in the future, I'd be all in favor of having it at EKU.

According to http://book.kentucky-hotels.org/city/?re...07997&t=mp there are 12 hotels in Richmond with an additional 47 within 23 miles.

EKU installed turf http://www.ekusports.com/news/2009/7/20/...91516.aspx in the summer of 2009, I assume at about the same time or after the last bid.

I am not in favor of or against games being played at EKU...It just surprised me a little that BG had a vast number more hotel rooms than Richmond.

Another, "just wondering", how many teams actually spend the night at a championship venue?
