I just saw Tony Perkins, the erstwhile presdient of the Family Research Council, on FOX and he was "explaining" the meeting in Texas where Evangelical leaders voted to endorse Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination.
It is obvious that these Evangelicals are between a rock and a hard place. Do they endorse a Morman, a Catholic, a Catholic convert, or a Libertarian? And, I'm sure Christie, everyone's true favorite, makes them nervous since he, too, is a Catholic.
I guess their vote suggests that these people grudgingly prefer a Catholic to a Morman. Apparently, they want to stop Romney from receiving the nomination that he has all but locked up. The end result will merely be to further damage Romney which, obviously, benefits Obama.
Just what do these people want? I understand that many, maybe most, Evangelicals think they have all the answers. However, it might be good for them to learn that, for the defense of basic Christian tenets, Romney is far preferable to Obama. Do they prefer one whose religious beliefs are, at best, unknown and, at worst, non-Christian?
There is a lot more that can be said but this post is already too lengthy. I would just suggest that these "purists" better think again and realize that by aiding and abetting the reelection of Obama, they are guaranteeing further destruction of those sacred beliefs that they hold so dear.
Not smart.
