Lexington Catholic 2012

Offensive:

Kyle Bolin will lead the Knights. Kyle has already committed to the University of Louisville and was 1st Team All-City last year. He should be in the running for Mr. Football in 2012. Besides his athletic skill he brings strong leadership to the team.

All 3 running backs return - Tailbacks Marcelius Logan (#10), Amoh Kumengisa (#28) and Full back Noah Mitchell (#22). All 3 will be juniors. Logan is good around the edge, Kumengisa is a speedster and Mitchell gets lots of yards after initial contact and has a nose for the end zone when inside the 10.

Wide outs Dave Bouvier (#12) and Casey Nash (#26) both return. They were 2 and 3 in catches behind graduating senior Adam Bush. Bouvier will be a junior, Nash a senior. Bush has been Bolin's favorite target but Bouvier and Nash work very well with Bolin. Bouvier was 1st team All-city as a sophomore last year. Nash was 2nd team All-city

Defense:

Graduating seniors seniors include All-city LB Jordon Artrip and DB Adam Wachs. 2011 leading tacklers DB Alex Nash (#31) and LB Josh Mesmer (#11) return. Nash was 1st team All-city in 2011, Mesmer was 2nd team All-city in 2011. Nash is very quick off the snap and he is on track to set defensive career records with a good 2012. He will be a senior. Mesmer will be a junior.

Other returning defensive players include Michael Vogelsang (#42) and Anthoney Kearsey (#13). They bring both size and and speed to the 3-5 defense that Catholic runs. They will both be seniors.

Look for junior Marty Brown (#5) to make an impact on defense. An early season injury limited his play in 2011.

Linemen:

There were a number of graduating seniors on both sides of the line - Center/DL Kurt Wilhelmus, OL/DL Big Oscar Melendez, DE Corey Mesmer and OL Trey Lankford. But returning line include Ridge Jackson (#53), Alex Buckles (#70), Trey Mattingly (#51) - 2nd team All-city in 2011, Will Childers (#72). They will all be seniors. Look for sophmore-to-be Cameron Baily and junior-to-be Brandon McKinnley to join this group.

Look for Sam Letton to make an impact as a freshman - possibly at tight end. He made some incredible plays as an 8th grader for Team Kentucky that went to San Antonio.

The Knights have lost to the eventual State Champions the last three years. The last 2 those teams have included Kentucky's Mr. Football (Dawson from Boyle Co. and Towles from Highlands). 4A is a tough class to be in.

The Knights will be strong in 2012 and should make a good run.
