With a mindset of a statistical/mathematical approach was taken to the task of listing;
20 Best KY HS Football Programs over the last 20 years (1992-2011).

First, a list of teams that played in the state championships was used as a starting point. There are 60 high schools that have had a team in the state finals in those 20 years. The following teams have been in the finals at least six times during that time, when teams are tied, they are listed them in alphabetical order (the number championship that they won during the last 20 years are in parenthesis): Highlands 13 (11), Trinity 13 (10), Beechwood 12 (9), Mayfield 9 (4), St. Xavier 9 (6), Boyle County 8 (7), Danville 8 (5) , Newport Central Catholic 7 (3), Bowling Green 6 (2) and Male 5 (3).

Second, the KHSAA.org website was used to obtain the team records for each of the last 20 years. This was used to calculate their total number of wins, their winning percentage and the number of winning seasons during that timeframe. While doing this, several other schools were added to the list. These were teams, such as Henderson County and Ashland Blazer, with high winning percentages that had not been in a state championship game during those 20 years.

Once this was done, several lists were calculated:
