A school could not legally discipline them for conduct that occurred off campus and not on school time as long as it did not involve a malicious act against the school or school property or school personnel or if law enforcement was not involved. A coach, however, could discipline them for violating his conduct or team rules. What does the school use for proof? Facebook? Twitter?

A coach is an extension of the school, any punishment given by a coach would have to be an acceptable form of punishment as if it was given by the school.
