Central 12 Belfry 6(3A State Championship)(OT)
#91
Some final observations about this game and Belfry's season and future.
-I'm gonna miss watching Messer play. The kid is one of the finest blockers and tacklers to play at Belfry in recent years IMO.
-Belfry never used Messer enough in the passing game. He was a mismatch for anyone he played against and I believe he had only 16 receptions the last two years.
-Central's D can fly and when they pin their ears back they can wreak havoc. They are susceptible to size and strength like Belfry's , but they never broke. Give them credit.
-The hug between Haywood and Scroggins was cool.
-The sky is the limit for Austin Hatfield.
-Central will be deadly again defensively next year.
-I don't totally buy the argument that the west is so much better than the east. There is some legitimacy to it, but the west is one great team, Central, one good team, Bell, and several average to above average teams in Wayne, Monroe, and a couple of others. But next year really does support that argument. Belfy will have their easiest path back to BG. Breathitt will be a team of huge uncertainty and the rest of the so-called contenders , and I'm not gonna list them but we know who they are, just aren't that good.
-Speaking of next year. There are plenty of holes to fill for Belfry both ways, but they got the kids to do it. The backfield CAN be unreal. Warren at QB, Carr, Hatfield, Taylor, Dari and possibly Johnson all return.
-Central and Belfry again in the broken record finals.
