Must have watched a different game. Fairview had 14 first downs and averaged 5.5 yards a rush. They had multiple turnovers, some was caused by the defense, some were just bad luck, some were caused by extra effort. Take away the turn overs and dumb penalties and they moved the ball at will. Mayfield is state champ! Congrats which I said in the last post but you must have missed it right behind the truth.

If you bust a 25 yard run on a drive then 1 yard 2 yards 3 yards. You averaged more than 5 yards a carry but it is still 4th. They forced fumbles 3 of those were on plays where Mayfield had the ball carrier contained in the backfield where the hit occurred. Mayfield has been a second half team all year we scored 4 third quarter touchdowns. After we came out at half and adjusted i wonder what the yards per carry were in the 3rd? You have to throw the 4th out cause all but 2 min in the 4th it was their starters vs 2nd and 3rd string from Mayfield. Most of their yardage were on big runs fowllowed by short gains. The reason we got an Int in the second was we forced them to throw by stopping that big Fullback cold. So bout midway through the second we started to stop the run much more effectively. I am estimating here but they had about half of their rushing totals in the first quarter. Most of that was on 3 or 4 big runs. After we adjusted we stopped their run fairly well had a bend dont break thing going made them play between the 20s. We gave up an onsides kick and a blocked punt we also had huge plays called back because of penalties. The biggest thing in this game were the points that were made all season. Poor strength of schedule had this team unprepared to know how to play from behind they did not know how to make adjustments because they havent had to. The inability to pass when you are down 3 scores in the first half killed them. The no kicking game killed them. Playing teams that just couldnt tackle or match them physcally killed them why would they be skilled at protecting the ball when they havent had to. If you can mix in a successful passing game 30 percent of the time and change the field with a decent kicking game. Fairview would have made a game of it Mayfield still wins but instead of 7 td it would have been 2 or 3.
