13th Region Tournament Profits Take Huge Hit at HCHS
#11
Full deck Wrote:I have to agree with the HC fans, why should they have to drive every year.

1) Because the population base for the region is NOT close to HC.

2) Because financially, the region took a huge loss when it WAS at HC.

It's the same reason the Bullitts never host their region and Louisville ALWAYS does.

Why make the MAJORITY have a FURTHER drive?

But hey, if making the INTENTIONAL decision to lose money in a day and age of cutbacks, then heck, do it just to make a FEW happy.

I'm not from Corbin. Not from HC either. I'm about 2 hours to the west -- and that's, umm, being liberal with the speed limit.

I've got no personal dog in this argument.

But when we rip the KHSAA for not making sense, holding the region at HC instead of a place it does really really well -- i.e. Corbin Arena -- well, that doesn't make sense. Or cents.

Either way, it does not (and did not) work.

If HC wants it again, it needs to make sure fans actually show up (like they do it at Corbin). If not, HC needs to cut a check to cover the difference (when it is at Corbin).

If not, HC is doing EVERYONE ELSE in the region a dis-service.

And that, my friends, is foolish, selfish and self-serving.

Like I said in the 3rd Region, Meade makes MORE money when the Owensboro schools host it at the Owensboro SportsCenter than when Meade County hosted the tourney itself.

So why does Meade NEED to host the tourney again? So EVERYONE ELSE can lose money just so lil ole Meade doesn't have to drive for once?

B.S.

Like I said, some schools need to stop thinking about "getting mine" and see the greater good.
