Imo in high school ball it is hard to compare scores on like opponents to compare two squads. Matchups are key, as well as how well one team defends the pass or run, what kind of offense a team runs, etc. Ashland is down this year, BUT are much better than many gave credit coming in. With that said, its hard to back up that kind of a statement when thy could only put up 7 on a way down Russell team. You can throw the comparison of like opponents scores out the window. Comparing Raceland to Fairview, I see this.
Fairview is more explosive and plays with more of a grit on offense than Raceland does. Fairview is a little bigger upfront, but not by much. They score in bunches, but are subject to giving up alot of points as well.
Offensivley Raceland can play a bit sluggish and sloppy at times. Int's and fumble have plagued this Jr/Sr class in big games since they were frosh. That is something though, that they have gotten better with. Defensively, Raceland is alot faster upfront and more experienced as a whole. They are subject to giving up a big play here and there though due to their over all aggresiveness.
In this series, playing at home USED to mean alot. Since McPeak took the helm though, venue hasnt mattered much. But playing at home, should give Raceland another td. Raceland's oline and dline is the difference maker though. Raceland is stronger defensively and more balanced on offense. Fairview is more explosive though, offensively. All of this factored in together leads me to this conclusion....
Raceland on paper is probably 2 or 3 tds better than Fairview. On a football field however...who knows. I still gove Fairview the edge due to their seeming a bit tougher offensively than Raceland. If the game could be one on defense alone, Raceland names the score. But that is not the case...got a few weeks for this chatter ro build up.
