I think its something worth trying to work toward. Iran, along with Russia could really help us put a dent in terrorism throughout the middle east, but it brings me back to the point that we should just not care about it. Now that wars are winding down and it seems a light at the end of the tunnel is visible, its either time for constructing a great deal of peace or time to start another war.
Unfortunately we will never see that warming occur as long as Islamic extremist groups are actively working the middle east. In the case of Iran, we saw a brief respite from the government enforced oppression that characterizes a regime which advocates for Sharia law when the Shaw implemented his monarchy which, aspired to western ideals. From the time the Shaw was overthrown until this day, Iran has been ruled by Islamist zealots. Their fondest desire is to see the Caliphate reinstated and they see all Christians as their enemy.
There can be only one true God. Not Jehovah and Allah. Not Buddah or Hare Krishna, Hindu, the Great Buffalo and certainly not Mother Nature and her 'green agenda'. Though there are many Christians in the Arab world, by in large, Islam is the lead religion and as is the case of all the violent unrest resulting from Islamic extremism, Allah is the god they worship. Therefore, to them we are infidels and we stand in the way of their dream of achieving the Caliphate. It will be open season on us until we are killed off of in some way defeated. This century or 10 centuries down the line, they will never ever stop. You're not going to negotiate with them unless they see an opportunity for treachery or military advantage. We can totally empty the US treasury by way of gifts and we can plead and capitulate with all our being and it won't change a thing.
We (the US) may choose not to intervene in Iran's quest to possess a store of nuclear tactical weapons. I believe this is a terrible mistake. Once they're nuclear your never going to contain them and we will see mushroom clouds on our horizons as the result. I haven't been to a White House security briefing lately, but it seems to me the Tomahawks should have already flown. Israel already used this tactic in June of 1981 when they bombed Iran's Osirak reactor. It taken Iran 2 and a half decades to recover. These third world nations like North Korea and Iran will collaborate technologies and develop an adequate delivery platform for their nuclear warheads. I ask you, what would be their stated target if not the United States?
