Playoffs, Alignments, Consolidations...
#2
Scotty_Bronson Wrote:Boredom breeds curiosity. Proposal:

Same old issue with 1 seed vs 4 seeds almost always being lopsided in a bad way. Ie: 4 Phelps @ 1 Raceland could probably be a 3td victory. Or more by Racelands JV/FROSH squads will end up being something around 60-8. 4 Nicholas Co @ 1 Pikeville will be much of the same. Proposal is this...

Keep the same format and 6 class alignment if u must. Bit give the 1st place team rrom each district a bye, only take the top 3 teams, let the 4 seeds play a complementary game.

Another question is this:
What does everyone think the new alignment will endup Looking like, what teams will go up and what teams go down? Imo i think going back to 5 classes would be best.

Are their any new consolidations for next year?

1st bold: Its been discussed every single year since the change to 6 classes. Its just not going to happen. Six classes is here to stay. Lets not also forget that upsets do happen, especially when weaker districts play really good ones, and the four seed is just flat out better than the one seed. Also, in class 6A, it has to be done because the loser of one district has to fill in for the other districts 4 seed. In 1A and 6A you only have 32 teams, and i see nothing wrong with each team making it. It gives kids an extra game to play in.

Second Bold: There was just a vote this year held by the KHSAA to all KY high school coaches, with there athletic directors, and all coaches overwhelmingly voted to keep the playoffs as they are with 4 teams from each district making the playoffs. The second choice was to go 3 teams from each district with the 1 seed getting a bye as you mentioned, and it was not even close, and two teams from each district was even further than that. Since the coaches and schools decided, its here to stay.

Third Bold: Im sure you meant that going back to four classes would be best since there use to only be 4, never 5, but i just dont see it ever happening again. Over time, consolidation will force the hands of the KHSAA to reclassify everything, but lets be honest, its not going to happen any time soon, and dont forget when schools get too big, they can split into two schools. I too think 5 classes is the best bet. 4 was simply not working, and 6 seems watered down. 5 classes would make for some great football IMO.

Fourth Bold: I have heard several rumblings of atleast 2 or 3 consolidations happening over the next few years, but i cant remember who they were. Maybe someone else can answer that.
