Somerset will no longer play Pulaski and Southwestern in Football

johnnyd Wrote:No but the willingness to work together goes a long way. You think that if Pulaski has a chance to stick it to Somerset now that they wont. I said the BEGINNING of the end. This will be a lengthy process. First Somerset will try to increase its limits to take in more people. This is a problem with all Independents. They are land locked. Its hard for new areas of people to move into these zones where as out in the county a new subdivision can spring up anywhere. If the County wants to put the squeeze on Somerset they can and really there is little Somerset can do about it.

The original enrollment contract proposed by the county school system allowed for students located within the somerset school district to attend PC schools with seek money following each, without a reciprocation clause. The number of students "allowed" to go to the city schools has dropped from the 700 range in the early 2000's to its most recent number of 240 students, with seek money following. A loss of 240 students, for a school district the size of somerset independent is a massive hit, whereas this is a drop in the bucket for our county counterparts. All of that said, I don't think it was initially an unwillingness for somerset schools to "work" with the county schools, I think the partnership was strong, the county chose to cancel a contract that has been in place for a very long period of time. Seems it was the county that has the issue of working with the city, and as previously stated in an earlier post why would somerset want to do business with an entity that is trying to slit their throat?
