He was a very good athlete, went to school on baseball scolly. He was a very good d end. He figured out real quick that he was not going to get a shot with Saxton ahead of him. He made the freshmen year his last for that reason. He later regretted it but... The 2010 team is the only team that I have ever seen in 1a that had more depth and talent than the 2002 team. Granted 2012 we had a great deal of talent in 2012 but if we lost JJ or Jordan Brown or Jake Guhy, we would have been seriously injured. The other two teams that I speak of, would have been upset but would still have won it all.
I don't remember that 2002 team being all that deep. Seems like they dressed a lot less than they do now, maybe 40 to 45.. As far as overcoming injuries, IMO, Jacob Shelton wasn't going to end up being the longterm QB for that team anyway and replacing a DB wouldn't have been an issue at all for the 12 team either. They could have lost a couple of DBs and it not been an issue..
