Varsity looked dismal in the 1st 5 minutes. Messer and Young both took snaps under center. Imo, Young is the clear cut better QB, stroger runner, has better arm strength AND if Messer is at QB he isnt at WR. After the first series, Racelands offense and defense settled down. Young mistakes in actuallity, stalled a few drives. Here's my take on the offense:
1. Young has to start out better and not lock in on one WR. Nerves had him over throwing guys in the first series. He played with more control in the 2nd series and it paid off. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think he had 3 TDs of 40+ to Maverick Dixon and a 40+ catch and run to Messer. Id say Youg finished with around 225 passing 4 TDs and probably 30 on the ground and 1 TD.
2. Messer and Dixon look great at WR. Dixon has increased his speed and looks great running his routes. Messer is Messer, crazy atheletic and probably has a 40+" verticle to go along with a 6'4" frame. More jump balls need to go his way in the redzone.
3. The run game shocked me! Started out bleak, but ten Christian, Snyder, and Young got into synch and looked pretty good. Our Oline gave Young plenty of time and looked really well when they pulled and blocked passed the 1st level very well. Young had 1 rushing TD, Christian had 2 and Snyder had. 1.
4. Defense. Gave up 19 pts, 1 was a busted play of 97 yds when Seth Holbrook didnt fill the gap on a DT stunt. The 2nd TD was simply the LB didnt make the tackle, the JV gave up a hail mary td towards the end. Other than the busted plays, Raceland defense was solid.
5. Special Teams...just needs work. Too much to say here.
Over all we played OKAY. Still very young. But the skill guys did their jobs and took care of business. The line looked better than I expected. Young had plenty of time and the backs had enough seems to work with. Both out OL and DL are MUCH faster than last year.
In regaurds to WC, they have some nice speed in the backfield. I can see them winning someball games this year.
