Interesting conjecture. Would be interesting to know what players HC has picked up that would probably have gone to CCH over the years. Are those players better than the ones that have been on the field for CCH in that time?

Politics play a huge role in a lot of kids decisions to go to HC instead of CCH. The culture at CCH is not the most inviting for some kids and many choose to take their talents to 1A. It's Cov Cath's loss, literally.
