Belfry vs. Central Class 3A State Championship
Objective Wrote:I never said Bell was as good as Belfry just that the game plan will be the same because both teams are 1 dimensional and comparable in that fact. speed will not give you an advantage with a team that can match speed for speed. If Belfry pulls it out it will not be outside of tackle box and speed that wins it for them but physical mountain football inside the tackles since they can't pass.

Corbin had an advantage being able to spread the field Bell didn't have and neither will Belfry.

I did watch the game and that's not sours grapes on the Wayne co/Belfry game last year I was pointing out that a 0-3 game where Wayne Co averaged 38 points a game and Belfry 36 was effected by the weather and to Belfrys advantage.

I see Central on the same level as Pikeville all around team speed to answer you on the 27 points

You said it was an act of Mother Nature that Belfry won the title...that's false. Belfry was certainly better equipped for a rainy day because they were a better running team, but if anything that weather kept it closer than it should have been in Wayne's favor.

Wayne had not had a team all year who could take away their running game and Belfry did just that. Guffey had not had a team all year who could take away his mobility and force him to beat them with accurate throws in the pocket on 3rd and Long. THAT was the single biggest reason Belfry won. You can point to dropped passes, but Sani Warren missed two wide open TD's he usually hits. Dry field Belfry wins that game in the range of 28-14 or 31-14.

People act like Wayne suddenly forgot how to play football in the rain. They beat Central that year in the Regional Finals in a cold downpour and not a soul was complaining about the weather then. Belfry won because they controlled the game's tempo and never gave Wayne the chance to build momentum and find balance. Truth be told Bourbon County impressed me more than Wayne County. Bourbon had more offensive playmakers and a pretty good defense. Wayne was better defensively, but the offense of Bourbon to me was much more dangerous and balanced.
