My husband and I were reading the other night about the plagues of the last days, the seals, etc.

A lot of wise people have been confounded, no denying that. But I was wondering if the malaise and indifferent feelings of Christians could be a part of one or two of the plagues....perhaps metaphorical or perhaps literal.

If nothing else, the general feeling of acceptance and tolerance of ALL things would have to help pave the road for these things.

Yeah, I see what you mean. But by way of response, let's keep it in Revelation. Revelation 3:16 (KJV)
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Middle of the roaders make the Lord sick to His stomach. Here's what I mean; we here in the United States were at one time proud to plunk down a dollar bill which stated "In God We Trust" on it. We prayed in school and hung the 10 Commandments in our school buildings. Business owners would not have thought about opening on Sunday as one just expected to see Mom, Dad and the kids fall out on Sunday to attend Church. Americans didn't give a second thought to offending someone for stating Christian principles, much less for being a Christian.

Then we became tolerant. Not that we were not tolerant before, but tolerant in moderating our once firm stance, which stated that there is only one true God, and His Son is Christ. It's funny to me that today's Christian looks chidingly back on the ancient Jew for his bent toward worshipping idols and Jehovah. While we ourselves think nothing of keeping our mouth shut while the liberal faction has succeeded in legislating a sort of, god equality philosophy. We here in the grand melting pot seemingly must embrace all gods for fear that some wayward adherent might become offended.

God would that we were hot or cold. Fence straddlers are sickening to the Lord, and He will spit them out, throw them up, or however one might characterize His rejection of people who try to have it both ways. In any event, one would not need to oppose other gods, all he needs is to fully proclaim the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

I feel the organized Church is largely culpable to that end. I mean, if one listens to liberals, Christians should only speak in Church, to wit I completely disagree. Past that though, I got a news flash. They don't say much of anything about our sociological charter in the Church either. Why? Because somebody might get mad and leave. Abortion, homosexuality, giving homage to 'other' gods, it's all wrong. At any rate, as I said, we (Christians) began compromising our position back in the 50's and 60's and we've been backing up like a turbo charged crawfish ever since. Likewise, if one party's political platform has a plank that calls for taxpayer funded abortion on demand, that falls contrary to the tenets of the Christian faith and Christians ought to reject said candidate based solely on Christian ethics. We don't have the right to campaign from the pulpit but, why would an adult need to have that point explained to him in the first place?

The Church has become anemic and because of her decades long retreat, to step up at this painful juncture and start laying down the law would seem hypocritical as the words were yet rolling off the tongue for many. God does not change, nor does He compromise. The findings of the SCOTUS not withstanding, God's Word will in no wise return unto Him void. Judgment will fall, and frankly given the recent events, I don't know why anybody would doubt that we are in the throes of judgment as we speak. To that end, I see zero evidence that the arrogance and pride of Washington DC has abated, and I therefore see no reason to hope that God's hand of Judgment will in any way be stayed. Unless we (God's people) repent, things will only get worse.
