I too remember those days. Drinking water thru the vent holes in your helmet after you filled it up from a hose. Times, players, and attitudes have changed. I also remember being on both good and bad teams in the 80's but never once went into a game thinking we could lose. We were as good as anyone we played in our smaller world. With today's media obsessed society alot of teams are beat before they take the field because they have read all week on a dozen different outlets that they cannot compete.

A lot of guys exaggerate or lie when talking about how hard they had it in football, but you always know when someone is telling the truth, just like you. Im not exaggerating in the slightest when I say water breaks were a rare occurrence for us. It was widely believed that water wasn't good for you. Thinking about how absurd that sounds now, it makes me glad the rules have changed, but they have begun taking it way too far.
Im curious as to why a team cant go full pads in practice after the first week. We always did, and that was only because they made you go a week in helmets back then before starting full contact drills.
We were always going live drills by this time every year.
