Lexington Catholic vs. Belfry (3A State Championship)
#79
Football Junky Wrote:Seen both teams this year. Catholic lately has got its mojo going on. Belfry is very good and they do what they do very well with their D and their ground game. I think JOhnson Central and Belfry have very similar Defenses. Lex cath is a different team from when they played JC. Catholic has played several very good teams in 5A and 6 A. I saw catholic play recently and was mostly impressed with their Defense. When they played JC, they didn't play with their middle linebacker and he's a stud. Lex cath's defense swarms to the ball and is one of the fastest teams on defense I have seen in a while. I think a lot of the Belfry fans don't realize that catholic defense can force Belfry to punt some. I think Belfry will be shocked on how fast catholic is at almost every position. When catholic played JC their QB now didn't play until The game was basically over, and with his running ability and all those speedy backs and receivers they will put up some points. The two big d tackles/ends for belfry are really good, but Catholic has a better off line then they think (tackle 6"4 270, guard 6"3 300 & move well). Gonna be a good matchup. Too close to call this early in the week.

Well, you never look at regular season matchups vs. a common opponent for a read on someone your playing for a State Title. LexCath will present alot of problems for Belfry and Belfry will present alot of problems for the Knights.

I am sure that each team will know pretty much what the other will do by the end of the week. There will be adjustments made on both sides of the ball once the game starts progressing. LexCath is a pass oriented offense and Belfry is the polar opposite with the run game, but Belfry will pass when they need to.

If Belfry gets a lead, LexCath better worry because Belfry will control the clock with the run game. Like I said earlier, the Pirates are more than happy to get 3-5 yards per carry and chewing up that clock and keeping the chains rattling.

If LexCath is allowed to get into their offense, then Belfry better worry because a fast paced game is not Belfry's forte'.

It will be a good match-up and I am looking forward to being there to see it.

Go Pirates!
