At the time the Constitution was written and ratified, women could not vote, had no legal standing, and those with black skin could be counted as property like a cow or a couch. It may be convenient to ignore history, but it isn't honest or helpful if we want to accurately assess the Constitution and the people who wrote it, who were white men, not gods in waiting.
