This is the best Russell team in a long time, particularly the defense. However, they do suffer from a lack of speed and playmakers. If they had a Gross or Clark in the backfield, they could be looking at a state title this year. It’s going to be hard to get it done, though, without the ability to break the big play. Their defensive physicality and toughness is off the charts, though. I wish they could have beaten Ironton, but they should be headed into the Ashland game with only 1 loss and that game should be a great one with the contrast of styles. TJ is perhaps the best coach in the area as far as game planning.
