California has the 5th largest GDP in the WORLD, and often pays more to the federal govt. than it receives.

Why would we focus on one state’s struggle when the whole nation is a dumpster fire right now?

Who said anything about federal taxes? California's sky high state taxes and the most restrictive environmental and regulatory environment in the country are what is threatening to bankrupt the state. That is what is driving wealthy job creators out of the state. Overly generous state and local government pensions are contributing to California's budget shortfalls.

What do you think will happen to California residents who stay where they are when the courts rule that a state cannot legally collect a state tax from former residents who fled the state for greener pastures? Somebody will have to pay and it will not be me.

I just hope we are around in 10 years. 

Red states have their own problems, and have no place worried about others much less those that pay their bills.
