The Democrats are being two faced when it comes to the Filibuster.  It does have a history of racism, with the Democrats being the guilty party.  I see no way to defend their stance on this.

Thank you for your response. I have mixed feelings about the filibuster myself. If we had the quality of representation that we should have in the Senate, then I would favor the elimination of the rule. However, there is so much corruption on both sides of the aisle, with so many votes that can be easily bought with awards of pet projects in exchange for votes on closely contested bills, I think that I would rather leave things as they are. Doing nothing when 60 votes cannot be mustered is better than passing bills on a party line vote or by a vote swung by bribing one or two members of the minority party.

I think that the biggest problem that this country faces is a poorly educated, poorly informed electorate. No rule changes in Congress will fix that problem.

I agree, the filibuster is kind of ridiculous, but unfortunately due to the very reasons you expressed, may be necessary.  Not only is the electorate what you stated, but also too ideological instead of using their common sense in my opinion.

As to the electorate.... If in history there were ever an example of a political apparatus working smoothly it would have to be that of the USA up through the JFK administration. An administration which BTW was aided by voter fraud, so they say. So even then was the political arena pure? Nope but it worked because generally speaking IMHO, the legislators of former days were themselves more pure in character; at least to the point of putting the good of the country ahead of their own ambitions. According to Democrats the greatest villain ever to disgrace the Oval was supposedly Richard Nixon. His great sin was participating in the bugging of offices of his political foes in the DNC and the following cover-up. The irony here is of course, that Dems turned around and returned the favor in the case of DJT's presidential run and seem to have totally gotten by with it. Where were the Woodward's and Berstein's when we needed them in 2016-19? But the evil Nixon stepped down in disgrace albeit after much lying about it, for the sake of the country. There were two exceptions to the era of smooth political workings, the Reagan Era and the Trump Era. There was hostility within the establishment, but 'the people' and consequently the country were very well served.

Did Nixon have reason to wonder if the Dems were up to something nefarious? Possibly. I sincerely doubt the bugging just came in out of the blue for the sake of reelection. I would guess that Nixon was hearing about things going on and felt it was his place to stomp on the collaborators.

The electorate are naive, and they are naive by choice. The founder's vision of a self governed people was certainly not the model of modern times. We don't vet candidates anymore. No the most by way of circumspection that any candidate can expect from his base depends 100% on his party selection. Why? Because 'the people' of this land are so blessed and therefore self absorbed with the pursuit of their own personal happiness, that they simply are not about to invest the kind of time it takes to properly self govern. The most 95% of the people who even vote can be expected to contribute to self governance is again, whether to go Democrat or Republican. And even then the vast majority don't come to any sort of renaissance of their own. They merely go with what Mom and Dad were and that's as deep as it ever gets, (other than the talking points). And where there have always been a percentage of Americans that wanted to party their life away, I say that percentage has recently gone through the roof. That's a problem, and a big one at that. 

Now, politicians might be shallow and self serving, but one thing most of them are not is stupid. They know people don't vet candidates. They also know if they want to keep it that way they have to keep the goodies coming. And so it's in that predictable comfort of civic laxity, that we have come to find ourselves in such sad state. Nobody's accountable, and IMO nothing short of economic collapse will change one thing. But until the coming of that collapse politicians will go on bribing those of the electorate who like Aesop's grasshopper, insist that easy times are here to stay.
