Legitimate question, and this isn't a knock against or attempt to call out any one regime or administration, because it looks like there's been plenty but: Whitley County always seems to be one of the jobs that seems like it has some advantages. There are a lot of students compared to other schools in the region, their facilities aren't terrible, and no other sport at the school has a tradition that's going to keep you from getting the athletes that are available. Yes, you have to compete in a district with Corbin and South Laurel, you probably have to protect against any of the better players in your feeder programs from leaving, and you probably aren't the most popular sport at the school, but why aren't they able to win more consistently?

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the last time that they went to the regional tournament, and am unsure if they've been to a regional semifinal in my lifetime.

What gives and what will it take for the program to be successful? These are some of the same types of questions that people would ask about Knox Central fifteen to twenty years ago.

Whitley had a nice season, but Harlan County was without Huff in that game.
I think Whitley made it in 2011.
