May 2025 Tornadoes
#9
Luckily for Somerset, it passed mostly through businesses that were closed, farmlands, and forests. If it had touched down a couple miles further west or even just a few hundred feet further North it would have been worse. The toughest part was after the tornado came through there were two more PDS tornado warnings that came within 20 minutes of each other, which delayed rescue and recovery efforts. Also, one of the businesses that was destroyed was South Kentucky RECC, the electric co-op for most of Pulaski County, so the areas without power are going to be slow to return services.

Unfortunately, it was the opposite in London where it went straight through neighborhoods. The devastation there is difficult to comprehend. I drove through the storm’s path in Pulaski County and it really is terrifying the power that tornadoes have. I expected to see the trees knocked over but what I saw was different. They didn’t get ripped up from the ground, it looked like they had exploded, like a bomb had gone off in the area. Truly awesome and horrific and terrifying at the same time.

Prayers for the Somerset and London areas with the recovery and rebuilding efforts.
