Top Offense's 1A for 2007

A Decent Lineman Wrote:Hazard or Pikeville---both explosive when in control of the ball!

Hazard, yes. When they are clicking on all cylinders, with that speed and a kid with a good arm at qb, IF they develop some linemen to take the place of the good kids they lost they can be explosive. Don't forget though, even in their biggest game -- the upset of Pikeville in playoffs, their offense still wasn't exactly "explosive" (however, they did just enough to win). The big question: can they develop a good RUNNING game?

Pikeville...well, a lot remains to be seen. It was obvious last year that they had to go to a "freak" offense when they lost their QB -- one that took advantage of their good running backs, a very strong OL, and required little from their QB. But it was also obvious that if a defense sold out to stack the line, their inexperience at qb made the passing game, well, let's say, 'not great.' It's kind of the opposite of Hazard: can they develop a good PASSING game to complement what could be a great run-game?

Lynn Camp -- heard a lot last year about how good Roskopf was...and how he had no supporting cast. I'd say they'll be working all off-season on developing a full-package offensively, or expect the same as last year from the Cats.

LCA will truly have an explosive offense -- I get to be in Central Ky. some with my work and I got to see them a couple of times last year. By the END of the year they looked a LOT better than at the beginning. They run a pass-first, Mumme-style offense and had a Freshman starting at QB who just got better and better as the year went on.

Raceland has a lot to replace, beginning with a college-ability QB. But their line is well-coached and they seem to be confident right now. Might be more run-oriented next year, but expect them to be sound. Sound enough to beat an explosive LCA -- I don't know.

Beechwood -- they're not what they used to be. Not nearly the same numbers on the team as in the past. Not nearly the same OL size as in the past. If they have an All-State caliber RB, they'll be fine. If not, their offense doesn't do enough to adapt and can get shut down.

Mayfield -- no idea. They were really up and down this year as a team, but I didn't get much about their OFFENSE specifically. Count on them being well-coached though and getting the most out of their players.
