Shorter bars will come soon enough, they just want to allow for swelling and you need to be able to move it around a little bit so infection doesn't set up. It's not something that people usually think about but before you start sliding the bar in your ear make sure that it's clean because those crusties that form and get infection into the holes if you aren't careful. I know you clean it like you should and stuff but if you are turning it and sliding it like they tell you to just make sure that you clean it before and after you do that to be on the safe side.
