Send down the Magic Man!

Macbeth and Coutlangus are rookies (both converted CF's from South Carolina U btw) and I'm guessing that Narron and others are trying to not to baptize them by fire right now and let them handle different roles besides "setup guy". Coutlangus is your lefty specialist (should be in front of Stanton). Macbeth's role is still undefined - he's only pitched in what 2 big league games and you want to throw him out in that situation yesterday?

Majewski was acquired to handle situations like yesterday. He has failed miserably. It's kinda like benching a guy during a slump, it doesn't help that guy return to form sitting on the bench - you have to let him play through it. I would say that with Guardado close to returning, Majewski's days of "setting up" will be over. Also, I would believe (I'm not sure) with all of his previous MLB experience that Majewski is out of options to send to Louisville.

Guardado/Weathers will split the closer role or Weathers will settle back into the setup role, depending on just how well Guardado is.

Well, it turns out the Reds finally got one right, as they did indeed send down the Magic Man after last night's game. I knew that Majewski could be sent down again, because they had exercised an option earlier this year. Using one of a player's 'options' gives a club the right to send him down and call back up as many times as they want during a given year. I remember that back out of spring training, Majewski was actualy optioned down to Louisville (I had been surprised that he still had options too), rather than DL him. I totally agree with letting him work out the kinks, but not at the expense of losing major league games in the process.

As for Weathers, I wasn't suggesting pitching him 2 innings, just the seventh. I think that ideally, a team would have a closer as well as a good set-up guy for situations like that, but this team doesn't have that luxury. If the game is slipping away, bring in your hammer (sad as it may be, for this team Weathers is a close as it gets). Get out of trouble in the 7th, and worry about the 9th later. Coutlangus has actually been with the team the entire year, and I would trust him completely in either situation. Maybe I trust Mcbeth less, since he hasn't been there long, but I would take my chances with him over the Magic Man right now. He just doesn't have it.

Anyway, once Guardado gets back, hopefully he steps back into the closer role and lets Stormy be setup man extraordinaire.
