Great to talk with Coach Keathley on-the-air today...Great guy and played at Betsy Layne one season before moving to Atlanta while in High School...
Answers to questions:
What's the average attendance at CBA games and what kinds of crowds do you expect at Miners games? Answers: Don't know about the average of CBA games, but the Miners hope for anywhere from 2 to 3,000 fans per game.
Who may be on the roster of the Miners once the tryout camp is over? Answer: Brandon Stockton will be at the tryout...Also, former standouts from Louisville, Kansas and Clemson have inquired about the team...I also understand that a former UK player, who played one season in the NBA has been approached about playing and there are contract talks...Also, another former Wildcat, who hails from Central City, KY could be playing for the Miners if contract talks work out.
Will the franchise be a flash in the pan? Answer: Not if the fans build a relationship with the team and it's players...A connection and support the team.
Other info from the interview: Tickets start at $5 per game, Jack Nicholson sideline seats are $41 bucks...48 game schedule...1st home game for the Miners will be on November 26th...Home games will be scheduled mostly on Thursdays and Saturdays to not conflict with Boys High School Basketball games...
One other interesting note...Keathley mentioned the idea of having local High School teams playing "an opening game" at the Expo Center prior to the Miners taking the floor as a doubleheader. I love the idea and I think if the KHSAA and schools/coaches can get on the same page, it would be a great idea for basketball fans.
Special thanks to Steve Lemaster (the guru of Miners basketball) for help with the interview and Coach Keathley for spending some time with us...I look forward to taking in some Miners games this Winter...
