Consolidated schools playing down in districts?
#48
kybaseball Wrote:let me see if i got this straight,ky football rules confuse the heck out of me.

two saller schools combine then they go up to a 5A or 6a school. do they get to play down every year or just one?

do they make a schedule then combine for that one year in order to go for a state title? Do stay combined or dispurse after the season?
sorry for my ignorence just trying to figure it out.

It was a shame what happen to Russell a couple of years ago,now i kinda see what happen.

It's not completely KY fb rules.

Most sports contracts are 2-year deals (home-and-home), and realignment occurs every 2 (or 4) years. If something happens in the middle of that cycle, you've got problems. Here, 3 schools are consolidating. The 2 single-A teams left enough holes in their opponents schedules that it wasn't too big of a deal to find replacements. Then you have 3A becoming a 5A. If you move them now, you've got anywhere from 7-10 "mid" teams from last year looking for a game, and 7-10 "big" teams that have to drop a game to make room for the newbie. It's no easy task, but it IS do-able.

Looks like the KHSAA doesn't want to be responsible for trying to balance all this out, so they just let a school be a monster for a year and say "oh, well".
