Rick Warren not so open minded.

jammin' jamey Wrote:Warren is a preacher right? How "open minded" should he be about gay marriage or abortion? The Christian right holds abortion and gay marriage in higher regards than climate change and poverty. Abortion is killing millions of people. Gay marriage is a destruction of fundamental principles that this country was founded on. These are hot-button issues with the Christian right and Warren was wanting straight answers from the candidates. I thought he did a great job.

When asking Obama about the presence of evil, Obama couldn't answer the question. He didn't want to accuse anyone of being "evil". When asking McCain, he responded to Warren's question by saying "we must defeat evil" and named it in very clear fashion as terrorist in the Middle East. I think the quote was if al-Qaida's placing of suicide vests on mentally-disabled women and then blowing them up by remote control in a Baghdad market isn't evil, McCain asked: "You have to tell me what is."

Good link that reflects my opinion.

He is entitled to have his own opinions, my point was that he just inst the person he was putting himself off to be. He catered to conservative issues, in a very pro conservative area, that shouldn't be how a "debate" is handled. You shuld be fair to both candidates, and not be biased. And it kills me when Right wingers take the high moral ground, when there golden boy mccain has had his own marital problems, I guess the RW must be of the "do as I say, not as I do" group.

"We must defeat evil"

And the first step in doing that is to get the republicans out of office! The big question about Mccains answer was did Mccain give plans on how exactly he plans to defeat evil? Remember that this is the man who doesnt know the difference between a Sunni, and a Shiite? Nope, he just likes to be a warmonger, and spread more of his BS.

Obama talked about evil around the world, including Darfur, terrorism, and other issues, including some in our own country. McCain however went straight to bin laden (remember that guy that Dubya doesn't care about), because this suited the audience. Conservatives like to act like they care about world issues, but they dont, they only care about things that help them (OIL!!!). Evil isnt secluded to the middle east, evil is everywhere, it's in our country (rape, murder, big companies screwing the poor), and it's around the world.

I also liked how Obama handled the question of when life begins, by saying it's above his paygrade. He could have took the arrogrant stance and claim to have the answer, but the answer is still highly debated. Is it a zygote? or does life begin with the embryo, it all really just depends on your belief, and the period of time your living in, as this answer has changed throughout history. Most people who claim to have the high moral ground on this issue, and know the answer, are in most cases just spouting BS. Does anyone remember the promises made by Dubya on abortion? Whatever happened to those? It was nothing more than a ploy to get votes, which is what mccain is doing, and is what Mr. Warren was pandering too.

Here is something for the RW to think about, "red states" are the leaders in the most "un-moral" issues in the country, the top three states in divorce rates are all red (Arkansas, Nevada, Wyoming), 2 of the top 3 states for murder are "red" (Mississippi, and Louisiana) They are also in the tops of suicide rates with New Mexico, Montana, and Nevada. SO is it really these evil "libs" that are ruining the world, or should the right wing look in the mirror.

We need to be concerned about all issues, not just the specific few that the crazed evangelicals care about because they got us into this mess. WE all share this world, and taking care of our environment should be one of top priorities, but republicans don't want that to be the case, because they cant get filthy rich, and protect our health also.
