You take any four defeated opponents, excluding any games between the teams that are tied, and you add up their victories. Each team gets one point for the victory total of these 4 defeated opponents. If, after the four opponents have been used, this still leaves all or two of the teams tied, you add a fifth defeated opponent and so on until the champion is decided. The number 2 and 3 teams left are decided the same way until their tie is broken with one team having more points than the other. This is basically paraphrased from the KHSAA website. Here in Pike County, we have dealt with this twice in the last 5 years. One year, Belfry, Pburg and Sheldon Clark were tied, and one year Pikeville, Paintsville, and Hazard were tied. All games on the schedule can be used in determining the tiebreaker, including out of state opponents. As i said earlier, the only games that cannot be used are the ones involving the tied teams. It also looks like the district involving Garrard County, Taylor County, and Wayne County will have to decide a tie-breaker for second, third, and fourth place, and Scott County, Lafayette, and Bryan Station will decide their district champion this way.
