Mayfield will be ready by playoff time.

Yeah, but them were some big, fast, strong boys they were tackling this year. If you remember they were young last year. They now have had a year to mature. Their recievers and backs were much larger than our db's.

We also got to remember we did all of that without our big target, Marshall Bacon.

64, that scrimmage was against one of Tn premier 3a programs. Our coaching staff really likes to push our boys. It seems to work for us.

I don't think we really have that much speed and not really that big other than a few positions. Gonna have to do something with the secondary for sur

Nimby, you are the first person that I have talked to that says that. I talked to coaches and refs after the game. They all feel that we are faster than last year. They also like our size. I think there are 2 linemen that don't have much girth but they are about 6-6'2". I have had some mixed reviews. Some of the more pesimistic persons that I talk to regularly feel that we have some issues with the qb and cb. Most of the people I talk to feel that it went very well for the first time out and that the qb will only get better and so will the cb's. Then I have been really surprised by some of the more pesimistic persons that I normally talk to. They have said they were very happy with what they saw and thought we had more team speed and the qb has a great arm. I even had one long time Cardinal fan and ex ref, tell me that the qb has a better arm at this point than Jake did. I think basically the jury is out and we will find out with the first 3 or 4 games where we stand.

Pessimistic or just not what you want to hear?
There some issues with the qb such as making the right throws and the cb who is vertically challenged.
The qb will get better in time and coaching while the cb will have issues with taller receivers.
As for the faster thing, they looked quick but I cant tell you if they are faster than last year.
There are still some things to work on as we knew but the team could have a high ceiling.

I would call someone who has serious doubts that we could reach the title game each year for the past 3 years pessimistic. As for vertically challenged he is taller than Latayo Crumble. Didn't too many pass over him, just ask the burg. He has been a great cover corner over the past 6 years. I'm sure he will pick it up soon.

You will get another shot at the burg 55 if you guys can make it back to Bowling Green. Then you can ask the burg yourself.

I'm ready for that 64.

Now back to my statement about faster this year, I will lay it out for you.
Offense:
Arnett is a faster qb on foot
Don't you the Kennemore is faster this year than last?
Don't you think Bacon is faster this year than last?
Don't you think Tucker is faster this year than last and as fast as Reed?
I would say that if Tyler is slower than Jackson it ain't by much.
Bright is definately faster than Mills.
Carmen is faster on the line this year.
Kendall is faster this year than last on the line.
The 2 Dunn boys are faster than anyone we had on the o line last year.
McCord is as fast as any of our o line from last year.
Sure looks to me like that means our offense is faster than last year.

Now for the second part of my statement about us being faster this year.
Defense:
Elijah Brimer is close to as fast thru the line as Trent Kendall
Xavier Brown is as fast as anyone on the line last year.
Carmen is faster than he was last year.
Dunn is about as fast as Hayden at end.
McCampbell is faster at end than last year.
Davis Mills is as fast as any of them at end.
Hernandez is faster than last year.
Workman is probably faster than Puckett this year at lb, close call.
Wimberly is as fast as any of the other lb's.
Kennemore is faster at safety this year.
Bacon will be close to as fast as Sevic at safety.
Tapia is as fast as any of those safeties.
Tyler will be close to as fast as Jackson at cb.
Bright is faster than either Reed or Crumble at the other cb.

Now, trust me I know more about this bunch of boys than anyone but the coaches. I have not missed any more than 1 game in the last 8 years. I have attended many practices. I have coached many of these boys in either football, basketball or baseball or even all of them. I have actually underestimated the speed on some of this bunch.
08-10-2014, 08:05 PM
You can talk fast all you want and these boys are quick but you can't escape the fact that the qb will need to make better reads and throw to the correct player and I think he will get better and with proper coaching and film work throw to the correct player. As for the cb, the same goes, stay with his man , you can't do anything about his height and he will lose some battles because of it. Mayfield may not play one team in 1A that has a QB that can put the ball on the money consistently and have a fast tall receiver. Mayfield will be ok but lets not beat the drums just yet.

To say we are faster this year seems a little confident to me. Yes Jordan Tyler is fast but is he game breaker material as Deion Jackson. Can Tyler make the big plays against the more experienced teams like McCracken or Caldwell with our younger line. As far as Trajon, the kid can be special but he doesn't seem as elusive for his size but he's just a sophomore at that. I just have several doubts about the team at this point after watching last night. Watching Milan's qb throw like he did, picked our secondary apart without any pressure. How will we fair against more experienced teams. I just don't think we have the toughness like last years team at this point
08-10-2014, 08:30 PM
I don't think anyone is doing that. We realize that they are young and will have to develop. But, that is the reason we play the schedule that we do. With that and the preparation that our coaching staff will do, I feel real good about our chances.
08-10-2014, 08:36 PM
I just feel like we might lose 3-4 games in the regular season this year, but that's ok. And why don't tim mccampbell get any touches at rb?

Sound like Mayfield is in trouble in 1A in the west...Just sayin.

What does he know about the west? Nothing more than they are usually tougher than east. He has no clue as to where we stand. He is doing a whole lot of wishful thinking.
08-11-2014, 07:25 AM
Mayfield is still the favorite in my eyes and no one else can saying anything else except Frankfort and Beechwood return more experience which probably is true but when one of those class A teams beats Mayfield then we can say they were better.
08-11-2014, 08:08 AM
With the schedule they play, what do you think will be their record at end of season? Anything less than a state championship?

Mayfield will be fine. All the things that are being talked about with the players can be fixed by just getting more reps. Everything I saw Friday night will get better by more playing time and getting in a little better shape. You have a good team when that is all that it will take to compete for a title.
08-11-2014, 11:32 AM
No way Tyler is close to Jackson. Graves didn't have a player that could keep up with Jackson and they had 2-3 faster than Tyler.
