After they play this K.N.O.X cupcake. They play Whitley County 0-3 and Letcher County 1-3 . These games are ther meat of the schedule. TOTAL wins of 1st 4 teams and these 2 teams are a total """"2 WINS SO FAR THIS SEASON"""". If KNOX is a cupcake thats all you play is CUPCAKES.

Coach Larkey had a very tough time filling out a schedule. A lot of teams would not play them. Are you aware of any good teams that HCHS declined to play?

He obviously isnt taking into consideration that Whitley losses are to Russell and Rock two top 10 4A teams and Bell which is number 2 in 3A.
Keep on rolling black bears. I cant wait for the PCC/HC game.

I'm pretty sure the KNOX cupcake comment was sarcastic! Bell and Perry are on the schedule.

a few losses/wins against good teams creates a measuring stick for the season.my prediction is you will lose 2 games this year and get pummeled in the state semi;s.you have in my opinion a good team but the offense you run will be exposed against northern teams with solid defenses.good luck i hope you destroy bell county this year.

There's no "county" in Lee's school name. Its just Lee High School.
Lee is 1-2 also. They dropped their opener to Union, 29-24. Union is a newly consolidated program, combined from Powell Valley (who HC played last year) and Appalachia. Lee was leading until the final 30 seconds of that game, had a good shot at winning and probably should have. Union went on to play and almost beat AA power Richlands the next week. Lee beat up on their in-county neighbor the next week and then dropped another heartbreaker to J.I. Burton just last week, 35-34...scored in the final few minutes and failed on a two point conversion attempt.
Like someone said before, Lee's not backed down from playing HC even with taking some beatings. But I'd have to say I thought Lee gave HC a pretty good game last year, for at least 3 quarters, before a couple of mistakes and HC's depth took hold. Lee's a better team this year, and I realize HC is too, don't know whether or not they'll beat Lee by 50-60 or more but I think Lee has the ability to give them a better game than that. The big thing for Lee is again depth, HC has that advantage again and will be a challenge for Lee as the game wears with their physical play..also one of their backs, Graham, got hurt at the end of last week's game and may or may not play in this one. He's been running very well so far this year, a little over 720 yards in the first three games, and got a good group in the backfield and the line is playing well. They don't pass very much at all again and it'll be difficult against the Black Bear defense without the passing threat.
Anyway, got to give the same regards back to the Black Bear faithful for always being good to us when our teams come over there. It was the same when we played Cawood too. Hope for a injury free good hard fought game and continued games for the future.

Beamerball, How dare you bring accurate facts into this argument about how many games HC opponents have won. What is wrong with you?
09-11-2011, 11:03 PM
Also, Beamerball, I understand about the Lee County thing. It is like when people on here and on your all's site call us Harlan. That is the other school. We are Harlan County.
09-11-2011, 11:10 PM
I hope the Grahm kid is health, I've watched him square off with HC and the New Harlan Patriots for years! I respectfully disagree with the HC depth notion Harlan County plays a lot of kids both ways.
09-11-2011, 11:20 PM
I've been working on improving the schedule for Harlan County next year and think I have a solution. We'll take the 3 district games of Perry Central, Letcher Central, & Whitley and keep Bell County. In addition we'll add Highlands, Trinity, Bowling Green, John Hardin, UPike and University of the Cumberlands....Problem Solved.
I find it rather interesting that so many people have a problem with our schedule. I also find it interesting much of the criticism comes from areas where no competitve team exist...:eyeroll:. I assure everyone with an issue...when we had 8 games scheduled and it looked like we were going to end up with an 8 game schedule.....NO ONE beat our door down to play.
I don't know what part of that people can't understand! If you want some....come get some....otherwise STF up.
Also nobody in their right mind believes K N O X, Perry and Bell are cupcakes. I'm curious....other than Perry Central who has a schedule so significantly tougher than HC's in the mountians? By all means......feel free to educate me.

If it was just kids from New Patriot team or just Cawood team of old,, lee would have a great shot at winning. The Harlan County team is made up of more schools those three or four extra schools makes it hard for a tem like lee to stand a chance. It may be a close game like you all say will see if its a 40 point win over a cupcake Friday night.

For the record, if it were the original New Harlan Patriot team playing this Lee High team, as long as we (new harlan) still trained under Larkey and staff, Lee High still wouldnt have a shot.... out of the 22 primary starters (offense and defense) we have a total of 3 starters that played on a different grade school team (jake middleton and kainer Caudill were from evarts and Treyvon Long from cumberland)... not to mention they only had two players worth accounting for (Tyler Graham and Evan Orr) and Orr transferred to Unoin County... so yeah they have one player compared to the original New Harlan's 18? Ithink that even if there were such thing as New Harlan High School we would all agree that compared to us, they are a cupcake team...:moon:

I don't think so! wow some haters lol
Back on topic.. Harlan County will have no problem with lee high va.,

There's no Union County in VA. He chose to go to Powell Valley (now Union High School) from the start. And they had a few more worth something and are still so now.
Anyone has a chance on any given night.

Do we need to start ANOTHER thread in order to explain to everyone about the schedule?
It's hard to believe that people are stupid enough to think that this was a schedule we hand picked!!
Get over yourselves.

I don't think Harlan County is getting ready for the playoffs by playing such a weak schedule. I know they are supposed to be good this year, but it's hard to get better playing weak teams. If Highlands, Boyle, and Lex Cath. can schedule good teams, so can Harlan County.

Have you ever been to Harlan County? It is not an easy trip to get in or out for anyone. It is 1.75 hours to get to a main interstate.
The teams you just mentioned play in a metropolis compared to Loyall, Kentucky.
What makes it even worse is Harlan County is a 5A school located in a region where no other large schools exist, except a handful and they play them. So if they were to schedule anyone lower in class, they are ridiculed. It is a darn if you do and darn if you don't.
Also, look who Boyle County had on the schedule, Hancock, TN and look at this weeks matchup for Boyle County, they had only 9 games or play someone as weak as water.
The whole getting ready for playoff's playing stiff competition in the regular season is hogwash.
Ask Rockcastle County in 2001, 2002 if their easy schedule kept them from reaching the State Championship. Also if think playing a tough as nails schedule would've allowed to beat Boyle County either of those years, you are also dilusional.
To each team thier own, each coach knows how to prepare thier own team in their own way.

Gate City is the defending state champs in Va in what essentially amounts to 2A. They have around 700 students. They are a good team despite what others on here who know absolutely nothing about them say. They returned 7 on offense, 8 on defense.
Lee High- Local game- 35 minutes away. They travel well, so do we, good gate for both schools.
iHigh bowl against Dunbar- I don't think we actually chose the opponent.
Bowl vs. Motown East- They were 5-6 in Tenn 5A last year. 4-2 when the starting QB went down. Played a freshman from there on out. Had 7 returning starters on both sides of the ball. They play lots of Knoxville area schools. They, also are not as bad as what others lead people to believe on here.
Knox proclaimed themselves as 2nd to the throne in the mnts last year.
GRC- 6A
Bell- Speaks for itself.
District- Have to play them.
Several other teams were called and refused to play. Coach Larkey was met with such replies as "Thanks, but no thanks!" one "Hell no!" one "You're crazy!" plus others. What was he supposed to do? Several schools were offered good money to come play in HC's ARH bowl- all declined. HC was lucky to schedule 10 games.
I had tried to remain quiet for the most part on this topic, but I can't any longer.
Everyone wants to uphold Bell on here, but who have they played?
