This is a product of Fairview not playing anyone until the playoffs and not winning the big game! I guess the coaches at Fairview are content with beating up weak teams every year then losing to an even team in the playoffs. you'll never get over the playoff hump with the schedule u play! This has been proven the last three years! Nothing to show for at the end of the year!

Great job by Pikeville to continue to battle in this game. Good luck next week

You have a valid point to a certain degree but I ask you this, "Who were they suppose to play?" Some of those regular season games were locked in 2 years in advance and I know for a fact that there were some better teams on paper that would not play them this year. So what say you? Let's hear your tough schedule for the Eagles?

I was at this game and I'm not trying to offend anybody from Pikeville, but Fairview was definitely the better team. The turning point was when Littlejohn went out with his injury. I think it really hurt them when they tried to keep him in there. He was just running on pure adrenaline. He could barely walk on the sideline. But, congrats to Pikeville! They executed better and made more plays down the stretch! The TD right before the half was huge! They don't get that, Fairview keeps the momentum throughout the second half and most likely wins! Pikeville showed the grit and no give up attitude like good teams that play tough schedules when faced with adversity are supposed to show! Good game and again, congrats Pikeville!

Some of the posts in this thread are both funny and a little sad. Raceland fans seem to praising Pikeville and talking about the tremendous "class" that Pikeville has, yet at the same time they express great joy that Fairview lost and say incredibly insulting things about not only Fairview, but the city of Westwood itself. Raceland fans certainly aren't showing the same "class" that they're praising Pikeville for having.

As for the last comment about Fairview's schedule, I think it was proven last night that Fairview's schedule had absolutely nothing to do with the loss. Had Fairview come out and been overwhelmed by the talent of Pikeville, I would have agreed with that premise, but if anything, Pikeville was a bit overwhelmed at first at the aggressiveness of Fairview. They were requiring multiple tacklers to bring down the Fairview running backs in the first half, thus the 18-0 start.

Did playing difficult teams during the regular season help Raceland? They lost to this Pikeville team by 30+ points last week. All that was proven to me in last night's game was that Fairview was better than Pikeville with Littlejohn on the field and Pikeville was better than Fairview without Littlejohn on the field. If Fairview had gotten to play Ashland during the regular season, it wouldn't have changed this game one single iota.

As for the comment saying that Fairview has "nothing to show for it at the end of the year"??? I guess if we go by that logic, only one team per year has "something to show for it" at the end of the year, the eventual state champions. Only one team in each class is going to win it all. Every other team is eventually going home sad at some point. Do all of those teams have nothing to show for their efforts?

Fairview won their district championship this year. They also played with a pride and determination that brought the community and school together. I'm sure each of the players, particularly seniors, learned important life lessons about striving together for a common goal and giving all they had in that pursuit. They sure impressed me this season. Ultimately, all they really likely missed out on was a long ride down to Hazard. Fairview has their school and program moving in a positive direction. They have a lot to be excited about.

As for the details of this game, Pikeville did a good job of not quitting when the score hit 18-0 in the 2nd quarter. They showed a lot of resolve in coming back. This turned out to be a very good game that could have gone either way at the end. The game could really be summed up as "pre Littlejohn injury" and "post Littlejohn injury". 18-0 Fairview with him. 20-0 Pikeville without him. Injuries are a big part of football, though. Give Pikeville credit for making the play to put him out.

Fairview Eagles, we are proud of you. Pikeville Panthers, good luck next week at Hazard.

^^^The better team was the team that scored 20 unanswered in the clutch to bring home the regional championship!

Congrats to my Panther faithful on bringing home the hardware! Good to see some Raceland orange in our bleachers also. However, people were right about Fairview. Totally classless. Sad thing is, its mostly the fans.
They played no good teams to back their record up. But for sure played one last night and look what happened! HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Big heart by Chase Hall last night; kids a player.

Not offended, but repectfully disagree. Fairview came out early and established their power game. But after Pikeville adjusted to their offense, the obvious nerves and conditions, they looked better. One of Fairview's TD's was on defense. I would assume that statistically the game was very close likely in favor of the Panthers (especially if you take out the last drive that was a product of the soft prevent). I do agree that Littlejohn going down hurt the Eagles, but Pikeville also had injuries, not as bad but our primary back was out for a while and played injured the remainder of the game. We also left 5 points off the board that we normally get. Fairview is a really good team, I did not see a clear difference in ability, only styles. Power versus speed and big plays, on dry grass or artificial turf this game is 2 or 3 TDs in Pikeville's favor in my view. It was a great game, atmosphere, and both teams played with tons of heart and respect.

Theres that true Ram pride rising to the top, thats why everyone hates you all so much and you all wonder why, thats why you all will never win anything until you all get an attitude adjustment, so until you win sometheng you all will still be the "Ams", am almost a champion.

Pikeville simply beat Fairview with this thing everyone has but others have more of it. Which is Heart!!!

Fairview’s title hopes dashed
Eagles get out to 18-0 lead, only to have it slip away

Rocky Stanley
The Independent

WESTWOOD — Pikeville quarterback Randy Maynard called it a thriller.

For Fairview, it was more like the big fish that got away.

For the second year in a row, the Eagles watched a lead melt away in the Class A regional championship game.

Fairview rushed out to an 18-0 lead Friday night on its home field, only to watch Pikeville play the role of spoiler perfectly.

Maynard, bottled up by the Eagles’ defense most of the night, scored on a 1-yard sneak with 9:53 remaining and the Panthers staved off a Fairview comeback in the final minute for a 20-18 victory.

“It was a great game by both teams,” Eagles coach Nathan McPeek said. “They just made a couple more plays than we did.”

Maynard, the driving force for Pikeville all season, managed only 9 yards rushing and five completions as Fairview constantly kept defenders around him.

“I didn’t have that many good runs,” Maynard said. “Fairview did a good job of locking down on me all night.”

But he came up with the plays the Panthers needed to win their first regional title since 2004. They will advance to next week’s semifinals against Hazard.

Maynard connected with freshman Cody Estep for a 64-yard touchdown in the second quarter to start Pikeville’s comeback.

The Panthers scored again just before halftime. A 15-yard penalty against Fairview kept the series alive, and three plays later Chase Hall scored on a 74-yard run. Maynard’s two-point conversion pass to Connor Pack cut the Eagles’ lead to 18-14.

Maynard provided the only scoring of the second half to cap a 61-yard drive. Hall ran 37 yards on the first play. The Panthers later faced fourth-and-7, but Gavin Miller took a Maynard screen pass 20 yards to Fairview’s 1. Maynard wedged up the middle on the next play as Pikeville became the first team all season to hold a lead against the Eagles.

“This one was a thriller,” Maynard said following the Panthers’ jubilant celebration in front of their fans. “It was hard fought. We got down 18-0 early but didn’t lose our composure. I can’t remember ever coming from that far behind to win.”

Pikeville (9-2) had to hold off Fairview at the end.

The Eagles took over at their own 11 with 3:54 left following a Pikeville punt, then picked up three first downs. Quarterback Ty Lowe converted a fourth-and-11 by finding Mikey Felty for a 20-yard pickup. Fairview reached the Panthers’ 21 before Miller intercepted a pass near the goal with 16 seconds remaining.

“There are a lot of sad faces in the locker room right now, but I told them to reflect soon on all the good memories,” McPeek said. “I want them to think about all the positives.”

Eagles went 12-0 for the first time in school history and had three 1,000-yard rushers to go with a 1,000-yard passer (Lowe).

Devon Turner gained 70 yards on 17 carries to join teammates Chris Brewer and Chris Littlejohn in the 1,000-yard club.

Brewer led the Eagles on Friday night with 85 rushing yards. His touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards helped stake Fairview to its three-touchdown lead. In between Brewer’s scores, Eagles’ freshman Calen McKnight returned an interception 45 yards to the end zone.

But Littlejohn suffered a sprained ankle early in the second quarter and didn’t get back into the Eagles’ offense until the fourth quarter. He had a 12-yard reception during the late drive.

“Fairview is a heck of a football team,” Pikeville coach Chris McNamee said. “Littlejohn going down was definitely a factor. Brewer gashed us early, but we were able to make some defensive adjustments. It’s just a huge win.”

Hall, a sophomore, ran for 174 yards as Pikeville made up for a couple of drops on deep passes.

It wasn’t a good night for kickers. Zach Burgy Vanhoose, a weapon for the Panthers all season, missed two extra points and a 35-yard field goal attempt while Fairview also went 0-for-2 on extra-point tries.http://dailyindependent.com/localsports/...pes-dashed

I am not taking anything from anybody! But, The first Raceland/Pike game was Pike win by TWO! The second game had way to many emotions for the RAMS to be back there, if that game would have been somewhere else the outcome wouldn't have been that lopsided. Fairview also lost by two to Pike, All three teams are pretty Eqaul. I was rooting for the eagles even though I am a Raceland fan, i don't care what any of you people really think about it! But, I will say against Nich. Fairview showed no class to that program during that game. and Fairview does have a program going in the direction of winning! By playing a weak schedule and the pipeline they have flowing. By the way you guys need to keep the booze away from Tommy before the game, it makes an ass out of the westwood community

My Bad, Pike beat Raceland by ONE first game!

Great job Pikeville, from a Belfry fan!

I am truly proud to have you guys fighting on. Beat Hazard

Fairview had a great season! Hats off to Pikeville. Cat Scratch and Rambutter maybe your Royals and Mouseketeers will do it for you in hoops! You two are the biggest whiners ever on BGR's!

I have no idea what your problem is or who you think that I am, but I am not a fan of any Royal team, Mason or Rose Hill, or Greenup County. And none of my posts on this thread mentioned Fairivew, just wishing Pikeville well and giving them props for winning. Whoever you think this is, I can assure you it is not them, because I have no ties to any of those schools. You are making things personal and there is no reason for that, it needs to stop now.

No problem, but you need to hurry up and post on the Pikeville @ Hazard thread and cover your claw marks. Mason County? Right. We know...We all know....:please:

Pikeville played well starting late in the 2nd quarter to the end of the game. I hope that the Pikeville @ Hazard game is as good as this one. Good luck to both teams.

Ok, you have to get in one more sad remark at me before you go on, ok, but it needs to stop now. For the last time, I have NOTHING to do with any Royals team or any other team for that matter.. I support the Tomcats and Kittens in the same way you support Fairview. The person you THINK this is obviously has an affilliation with one of those teams, whatever, but I don't. So, stop this junk now because making this personal is not going to go well for anyone.
#53
And I don't have to post on any threads that don't apply to me. I was a Pikeville supporter Friday night, they played a great game and moved on, I am doing the same thing. But thanks for the info on the thread, I had not noticed it yet.

What a great game! Maybe Direct TV could show it as a classic. Should be a great game between Pikeville and Hazard.

Maybe they will, but since I have Time Warner I guess I will have to see if it is on there.

Very impressed by the determination of this team. Falling behind 18-0 and battling to fight back, take the lead, and ultimately hold on for victory. Super proud of the defense that only gave up two touchdowns to this high powered Fairview attack. Austin Black and Tolliver Hefner played outstanding and the entire D-Line was fantastic at disengaging and making a play. Offensively, nerves, the environment, and lack of focus really was a detriment. When everyone finally gained composure, there were some nice runs and play designs. Coach Billy Johnson and Steve Johnson deserve a ton of credit. They came up with some perfect calls at the right times. To overcome putting the ball on the ground 5+ times, throwing a pick six, kicking a ten yard punt, dropping two TD passes, and doing it all on the road is a testament to the coaching staff's preparation and the players' discipline and composure. The bend but don't break philosophy has willed this team to an outstanding 11-2 record and a spot in the state semis. Both of the Panthers' losses are still playing as Belfry and Swain County have advanced to the semi-finals in their respective classes/states. It has been a great ride! Let's hope for a couple more weeks! HAIL PIKEVILLE!
