Lawrence County Football Coach

Do-double-gg Wrote:Ok all the people have said that the boys love coach Cecil, but if that is true where are all the boys at. Just got back from the school to see em work a little and I counted 25 or 26 boys. That is not enough for a 3a team. That is not enough for a 1a team. It was so disorganized and had the feel of a little leauge practice. This is the kind of stuff I was afraid of when I got the news that he got the job. Mediocre coach ='s mediocre team and program and that is all he is and all we will be under him like it or not. I love this team and school and I was disgusted at what I saw tonight. I will still go to the games and support the team but it is going to be a long ugly year for Lawrence County football!!!

That is good numbers for a 1A team. I think it was the '09 season that Prestonsburg a 2A team only dressed 27-30 players. That team went undefeated in the regular season.
I know your a little down on your program. You should support your program & coach to the fullest untill he proves you wrong. A little support from the fans & community goes a long way.
You could be right about all your saying. I'm just saying give it a chance before you count them out.

Do-double-gg Wrote:What rock did you come out from under. Do you think that is all they can pay a coach. You have no idea what you are talking about. Do your homework and take a look at what some high school coaches in eastern kentucky make. Look at what the coaches of teams like Johnson central,Belfry and Bell county make, or Prestonsburg or Harlan county or Knox central or Ashland. I would bet the farm that all those schools pay more than we do. This school makes more on this team then what they pay or the would just stop the football program all together. They make more when the team is good and so when they get a good coach and they make more money they want to pay the same and that is why no good coaches want to come here. dawgbyte02

have you not seen the schedule? i don't think it matters how much the players love the coach or how great the coach is, lc will struggle this year. with enrollment down at an all-time low, and a lot of players graduating over the past 2-3 years, and playing the likes of Perry Central and Ashland, it won't matter how organized you are in practice. if luke salmons were still here this year he would struggle to win 3 or 4 games. that is a fact. like it or not.

the attitude you and others have about coach cecil and this football team will end up being the downfall of the program. how many state titles has lchs won before cecil? i believe your expectations are a bit too much for this team. let them grow and give the coaches a bit more time. if you remember when luke took over he went winless. what did he do the next season? he started playing LESSER opponents and won more games.

why is the youth league in worse shape? Do you even know what your talking about? Last year they won more games than they have in years. Why dont you get off your lazy butt and volunteer to help. Im sure with your infinite football wisdom you could make it an elite program. You do realize that everyone that is involved in the youth League are Volunteers dont you? The problem is this community is just like you, they want to get on their soapbox and preach about how bad everything is and talk smack about those very few people that actually care rather than lend a helping hand, donate or at minimum offer words of encouragement. Honestly you should be ashamed to call yourself a fan. Moreover you are what one refers to as a fairweather fan, and the kids dont need ya. Put up or shut up.

 thank you! you are exactly right. these people think that everything is someone else's fault. they think things come easy at the snap of a finger and when it doesn't they look for someone or something to blame. i wish these people would begin the blame by going and looking in a mirror. that would be step #1 in the solution process.

^well said.

As an outsider looking in if some of those posting on here are true fans of the program, well your program has more issues than just a head coach
#36
NKY.. Honestly your correct. The Administration does not support sports in any way. It cant be blamed on that alone. It takes a good community to raise good kids and a good program.
#37
It's about the players. It takes an entire community including support from administration to built a good football program. But it only takes a few "fans" getting on chat boards to destroy a program and undermine a program for years. There is a time and place for some of this. Have you talked to the head coach and aired your concerns? Is it about type of offense/defense? play calling? use of student athletes? Your precious little baby not getting enough playing time? The summer leading up to the season is not the time to be tearing up a coach and a program. After the season is when these discussions should take place.

The question some of you need to ask "Am I helping or hurting the kids at this point in time"

Ok for one thing, from the very day they said that he got the job I shouted from the roof top that this was a bad idea. Coach Goldsmith who they ran out of town had more football knowledge and know how then this coach. I would take coach Goldsmith right now over this man. For another thing if you are not from this school and town you have no idea what you are talking about. I am from this school and town and I know how they do things. We have had good coaches but the school wont try to keep em here. And how is little ol me voicing my opinion going to bring the program down. If it is that easy then you are right,we do have more problems then just a bad coach. He was not even that great of an assistant, because if he was coach Salmons would want him at CM high school but coach Salmons got the people he wanted. And there is a big difference between the team and program coach Salmons inherited and the one that this new coach inherited. Coach Salmons inherited a mess but he got things on the right track. Yes with a very young team and this schedule any coach would have his work cut out for him but just hide and see how this season goes and then some of the same people on here who are acting like they are on his side, you will see how quick they will turn. I predict that the bulldogs will not win a game this year. If they do it might be Jackson county. Some of you on here have a good coach and program and have nothing to worry about but if you were in my position and your school chose a coach that was an obvious bad choice and just a quick easy hire you would go off also. But things can change in a hurry. This just might be your school next year so think about it.

For your info I do donate. And who are you and what do you do for the teams and players? Are you a coach? No I did not think so.

I am a bulldog fan for life. The only thing I love more then the Bulldogs is football its self. I go to every game I can. I even go to practice,do you. I don't think some of you on here know how this school does things but I do. Do you have any idea how many coaches this school has gone through in the last decade to 15 years. The number is like 6 or 7. I am sick of it. Some of em were bad but a few were good but they go because the school wont pay em what they should.
This is a fact that when a team does good and they play more games the school make more money but they don't want to give the coach any credit for it. This school gets a good coach then they let em go then they do a quick hire and things go down hill and the money stops coming in then they go get another good coach for a while. It is a never ending cycle at this school. Some of you on here and I hate to say this but it is a fact think that if a coach is a good person and the boys like him that he is a great coach. I know that being a winner is not everything and you do want the coach who is with your kid to be a good person but if you go to the trouble of doing all that work and blood, sweat and tears why not try to win. Being a good person and good with kids does not make you a good coach. I am a good person and I love kids but I'm not a coach and neither are you
#42
I have found that the ones they call a good coach in this town is the ones who give in to the politics and run what the parents want em to run and play who the parents want em to play and make decisions for the team by what the kids last name is. And they like the coach that don't ask for much of their or the kids time. The problem is, this kind of coach never has much success on the field. But when we get a good coach who knows how to run things and shows the kids a little tough love and gets on em from time to time, he is just an awful coach. I think a lot of schools have had this problem all over the country and it never goes well.

I'm not old enough to have a kid on the team. I have never questioned any coach on what they do on the field or what kind of system they run. I don't know it all about football but I love love this game and I follow it at every level. I do however think I know enough to spot a good or bad coach when I see it. This man is not new to football or this school and he is not all that great.

You come off as the kid that sat on the end of the bench and blamed everyone why you weren't playing. Having coached at various schools across Northern Ky since 1990, playing in college, having a pretty good high school career I've seen some football in my life. You come off very bitter and one of "those" fans that ultimately hurts a program more than you help. Unfortunately you can not see that and that's a shame. What coach in their right mind would want to coach in a program with a fan like you. Coaching doesn't pay the bills and in some situations isn't worth the crap of the "fans".
#45
No I was not the kid on the bench because I did not play football in school and I was never a coach either and I doubt you were either. That is a lot of stuff to claim on here with me not knowing who you even are and all. It is a shame that you cant see that I am not hurting the team by speaking the truth. I will tell you what will hurt a team is going 0-10 and players not showing up and coaches not being with the team when they should. You should read more of the post on here before you talk about things you know nothing about. Are you from Lawrence county because I am. Did you go to school here because I did. Do you live in Louisa because I do. Do you know anything about this coach because I do.

you do realize that luke salmons went 0-10. in fact i think it was 0-11 after the playoff game. how did that end up? salmons ended up lightening the schedule drastically and winning games. with the schedule this past season and the one coming up this season, and the youth of the team, vince lombardi could be coaching this team and they would struggle.

and to answer a previous question you made to me on another post about "who i am", if you only knew. that's my answer. trust me. i know more than you about the ins and outs of lawrence county athletics and school system.

just give cecil and his coaches more than this year. i felt he did well last year. he won a playoff game on the road. did you expect them to beat belfry? do you expect them to beat Ashland? wait until he can get a schedule that lchs SHOULD be playing and competing against.

dude are you serious did you ever hear the old saying. Those who can't play coach. Do you know how many great people in football that did not play football. Do you know how many great coaches and football minds that did not play, You don't know much about this game at all do you. And speaking of coaching, you said you did all this coaching and a star and all so who are you where did you play and coach. I will post my real name on here if you will. Go get a life

Actually the pay for LAwrence county is nice compared to neighboring districts
FOOTBALL HEAD COACH (1)chemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
15 extra days
$6,000
Schools in Northern Kentucky don't pay the extra days

Played for CovCath early 1980's(honorable all state by the way), Started 3 years in college at a DII school in Western PA, Coached off and on since 1990. There are some who never played and became coaches but that's an exception not the rule.

Ok i don't know who you are and you may know more about Lawrence county then I do but if that is so then you unlike other people on here know some of the things that go on in this school like I do. But you can't compare Salmons 1st season with Ceicels 1st season. Salmons inherited a much worse team. And you cant tell me you think he is on the same level as salmons. Salmons will go on to win a championship at Cabell Midland before it's all over. You also know that that 09 team was good strong schedule or not. You also know that if he and his staff were here right now this years teams chances would be much better.

Stop living in the past. This is 2012 and your comments are destructive to a program. You've been here less than a month and the vast majority of your post have been negative/detrimental to this schools program. A public forum at this time of the year is not the place for your comments

Like I said,go get a life. You don't know me and I don't want to know you. You don't know anything about this school or this team so stop replying to me or I will report you as a stalker or something.

I guarantee that there are LC player's that will read the negative posts on this thread and it will cause them not to trust the man that is to lead them into battle. Wait till he totally flops before you call in the dogs. Give him at the very least a chance to coach these kids. Also, you never know who you may be conversing with on this site. There are some very reputable coaches on here. Just say'in. :Shaking:

I don't think you understand me at all. I will always support the Lawrence county program. I love this school and I love this team. If this were not true I would not even take the time to comment about it. Like I said I will still go to the games and if you go to a Lawrence game you will hear me screaming over the whole crowd. I love football. I get so nervous before a big game so bad that I want to throw up. But I do have the right to voice my opinion about the coach and his staff. I would never say anything about a player because they are just boys but the coach and staff are fare game. This school has made a lot of bad decisions with the football program and people from this area know what I'm talking about. If the players can loose faith in a coach just because a fan made a comment about it then they never had much faith to begin with. At the end of the day when all is said and done I am just sick of coaches coming and going and this program going up and down. All I want is some stability. I don't want to sound negative all the time but a lot of negative things have gone on with this program over the years. People if I am wrong about all of this and he does great I would come right on here and admit it to all of you. That would be great for me because my team would be doing good but I just don't think that will happen. But we will see how the season goes. I hope all of you are right and I'm wrong. You don't even know how much I hope so.

A truce to you good sir. I don't like to argue with people. I like BGR and don't want to make an enemy on here. I guess we will agree to disagree. I do get heated sometimes when I talk about football

Hey guys I'm back, been a little busy with work and playing softball. When does practice officially start?
