I remember a thread from a few months ago about picking your teams schedule. If I could pick Rock's schedule, it would be Madison Southern, Bell County, Whitley County, Knox Central, one of either PC/Somerset/Southwestern (Probably Southwestern because I cannot get that image of Lee Renfro tarnishing Rock's perfect record in the Jamboree bowl out of my football mind), and a few other teams.
Whitley County is like Wayne County in my mind, I never really appreciated the series as I should have but I know if it goes away, I will miss it.
If all goes well this week, I hope to be at the Rock-Whitley game. Maybe I will have a RIUTG sighting.

Were Black, Larkey and Hilton coaching in the same district at the same time?

For years you had Black as an assistant at Whitley, Hilton the coach at Bell and Larkey the coach at Rock, but i dont believe they happened at the same time. While Black remained at Whitley from 91 or 92 until he left for Wburg in 2000, Hilton was the coach at Bell but by the time he left and Greer took over, Rock hadnt came into 3A yet i dont believe.
I think Dudley left Bell in 97 or 98 and Greer was the coach until around 01, when he then came to Whitley and Dudley took back over at Bell.
So in short, i may be wrong but i dont think it happened. 3Wishes could prolly go into further explanation.
But the names of the coaches that coached in these regions in the 90s were great with Hilton, Larkey, Campbell, Matney at Sheldon Clark, Holcomb at Brethitt in 2A and sooo many others.
Great time to be a football fan around those times.

How much did Whitley pass last game. im sure after seeing rock film they will come out and give it a try.

Physically, Boston Bryant is a beast!! But what makes him a great player is his brain. He has the ability to run over you, but has the brain to determine the best course of action.
Along with the other 2 backs WC runs normally, I think they will dominate this game.
Whitley by 2 TDs.

Wet field boys, does this change how you view the game or give an advantage to one team or the other?

I dont think it will change nethier teams game plan

Wet field just means more straight ahead running
08-29-2012, 01:21 PM
Whitley wins and Bryant goes for 250.

you would see that if the field was dry lol. whitley will come out and pass some. but they will run the ball alot with bryant and company. I think these two are alot a like

Everyone talking bout the Fullback does he even run the ball that much ??
08-29-2012, 09:35 PM
Whitley will not pass the ball except for two or threes times tops. They run their offense and run it into the ground because their philosophy is that they can eventually hit on one of the runs with their speed, misdirection.
Regardless who or what the defense does WC is honary and will run it and yes the fullback runs the ball a lot, one of the best in the mountains in the past 10 years along with the other kid they had last year.

Yes, he is their primary back and will have 20+ carries. He will not be solo tackled......period. I a couple of occasions he carried 5-6 Lakers for an additional 4-5 yards. In two complete games I have yet to see him fall backwards. I actually think he's better on defense. In fact they have a couple of good LBs that seemed to be in every stop last week. They will throw the ball some, but will mostly go up the middle a few times then try to bust a run to the edge. They have the makings of a really solid team.

Yes, seen him play a couple of times. he is the real deal. he has some help with other back tho

He will get 20 touched if it turns out to be a close game.
Best thing for Whitley is that they have other options this year unlike last year. As someone stated, we rely heavily on our fakes and misdirections to open up the run instead of using the pass.
I know Black would like to implement more passing in the offense and be atleast 70/30 run, but we have a sophomore qb who is still learning the offense.
If we could rest Bryant on offense or defense (where i feel hes a better player) than he could break some records, but he's to valuable to rest much.
I think some people seen our Russell County game and kind of already wrote us off, but the Russell County team may be the best theyve ever had and will challenge the likes of Boyle and Lex Cath for that region. That wasnt a cake game, which we only have 1 or 2 of all year.
Rock will make it a game, they always do against us, but i think were a better team right now.
I thought we were only going to have around 40 players this year, but i was surprised to learn we have close to 60 on the roster. If some of those kids, especially the younger guys, can mature throughout the season, we could have a pretty good team come Novemeber.

Whitley was 5-10 for over 80 yards last week with 2 other sprint passes where the QB keep for yards. Considering they only threw 38 passes last year for 199 yards thats a big step up.
I do think 10 passes a game will help open the run.

^I have preached it to the Rock faithful for years, you have to at least attempt to pass to help keep the defense honest.
I have watched football all over the mountains for years and when mountain teams are able to compete and win state titles, it is when they have a QB that can at least complete slants and short streaks.

^Unless it was Bell County vs. Rockcastle County, back then Hilton's team runs every play and Larkey's team runs every play. I think they were testing who was more smash-mouth, lol.

RIUTG are you going to the game. I allways like meeting new people.

Why does Whitley play such a hard schedule every year. They are beat up come district play. Maybe they need to look at putting a few easy games on the schedule in the future.

Thats some good info Rocket1.
I like seeing all time records for matchups. I knew we were a few games behind, but i had no clue that we had already played 25 times.
