I agree UK football fans deserve better. Yes UK needs to do the upgrades. But I also think that the "Hal Mumme Finesse Style" of football that the "high-ups" at UK seem to love will never work in the SEC! The most sucessful teams in the SEC and in College football are POWER TEAMS. Last night a Sunbelt team WKU lined up and beat a SEC team using a power football style. Anyone who has watched SEC football knows that the best Cornerbacks, Outside Linebacker and Defensive Ends play in the SEC. Why run a system that plays to the strenght of the SEC? Yes UK needs to throw the ball down the field but about every UK football fans knows that WR's that can beat SEC cornorbacks one-on-one are few and far between. I am so tired of seeing these under sized RBs, WRs how about trying the Bill Belichick approach and forcing SEC teams to match-up with gitfted TEs. When Joe Gibbs had trouble blocking LT he came up with the 3 sometimes 4 TE system that he won 3 Super Bowls with. On the defensive side of the Ball I am tired of seeing a 210lb kid play LB and get ran over in the hole like UK did last night. Its time to put some LB's on the field that have the size to stop the run. This 3-4 system that Minter has brought in calls for Stud LBS that teams like Bama can get and teams Like UK can only dream about. Anyway my point is before UK can compete in the SEC in football they have to have sound plan for the program that is based on the type of kids that UK can sign, a system that gives these kids a chance to be successful. Running a Offensie system that calls for a 1st RD pick at QB,RB and WR and Left tackle has no chance.

That's exactly my position. How many season's have we watched these small linebackers get demolished against other sec teams? It doesn't have to be that way. Imo, if U.K. wanted to make it a goal to successfully compete with the Bamas, and the Floridas of the sec it could. It wouldn't happen overnight, but it would be a goal to strive for.

I think UK could too but it starts at the top with a head Coach that understands what it takes to win in the SEC. UK is never going to out recruit the likes of Bama and UF but UK could recruit players that give them a chance to create match-up problems. I am so sick of seeing UK's 5 foot 8 inch 185lbs RB try to block the SEC 3-4 outside LB that is 250lbs or UK's 4.6 WR vs the SEC 4.3 DB. How about bringing in some bigger power RB's that are in the 240lbs range who would stand a chance of blocking the stud LB and who will make the defense pay when they tackle him? How about bringing in some TEs or H-backs that are a little faster than the LBs but bigger and stronger than the SEC CB. Instead of having a big fat 300lbs offensive line , why not try a smaller more athletic line, average weight of 285 or so, like Denver did in there Super Bowl years, a mean nasty bunch that can move? If you can't sign that 4.3 CB why not recruit and sign that HEAD HUNTING SAFTY that will knock the Crap out of you? I am tired of seeing the same old crap and type of players get kicked in the dirt! I am tired of watching this fancy Dan football, I want to see a UK football team that does the hitting for a change!

I never said in my original post that we should be a SEC championship team? All I said was decent. Look how many years it took Brooks. 4 years. We will never be that patient. I will say that we will never get a coach who will come in here and get some potential players if we don't upgrade facilities. Vanderbilt has better football facilities than what we do, and so does every school in the SEC. This has to change.
